Blue building

Our strategy is intentionally simple, executable, and measurable. It’s built on a foundation of embedding quality in everything we do.

Building trust and delivering sustained outcomes. It all adds up to The New Equation.

“Our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems. The New Equation will shape how we help to build trust, and how we deliver sustained outcomes as a community of solvers. Quality is at the heart of everything that we do, and is the foundation supporting our execution of The New Equation strategy.” - Dion Shango, CEO PwC Africa.

The New Equation focuses on two interconnected needs that organisations face in the coming years: building trust across a wide range of areas that are important to stakeholders, and delivering sustained outcomes in an environment where the risk of disruption is more intense than ever before. PwC Africa’s six focus areas will help to address these needs among clients, communities and other stakeholders in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Quality in everything we do

We have focused on quality this year by:

  • driving a quality mindset in everything that we do;
  • positively promoting quality by sharing our quality success stories from our winning teams;
  • enhancing our people engagement and retention with initiatives such as ’Listening tours’ that encourage an open dialogue;
  • responding to changing risk environments, including climate change, local South African events (civil unrest) and other global matters; and
  • regular, targeted and timely training of our engagement teams.

Sharpen our market focus

We have sharpened our market focus by:

  • refreshing our global strategy with The New Equation to build trust and deliver sustained outcomes;
  • optimising workforce productivity, seeking competitive value in deals and other transactions and deploying integrated digital solutions;
  • differentiating our client experience and leveraging technology to bring new value to our clients;
  • reviewing potential acquisitions in a responsible manner to keep us focused on the right opportunities; and
  • focusing on executing the Tax Code of Conduct, as well as the transformation and specialisation needed to drive profitable growth.

Be commercial

We continue to be commercial by:

  • remaining financially resilient despite difficult circumstances;
  • improving the uptakes of tools and technologies, as well as work performed by Service Delivery Centres; and
  • actively driving Salesforce adoption to increase our ability to respond to opportunities and leverage relationships.

Digitise our business

We have made significant strides in the digitisation of our business by:

  • laying the foundations of digital upskilling through the launch of the Our Tomorrow programme;
  • launching and embedding Oracle throughout Africa, making PwC Africa the first PwC territory with the full end-to-end BOS suite implemented and further embedding BOS during the year; and
  • taking our training offerings, NED webinars, discussion series for clients (including webcasts and webinars) and interactions with students as part of recruitment, to virtual platforms.

Inspire our people

We keep the wellbeing of our people top of mind and continue to inspire them by:

  • creating a supportive, positive, flexible work environment;
  • agreeing on expectations upfront and managing performance continuously to ensure that everyone knows what’s required to meet our goals;
  • developing and coaching our people by providing learning and exposure opportunities tailored to their individual needs, and the changing PwC requirements, which will equip them to be successful in the new world of work;
  • ensuring we have the necessary skills to perform the work we do, at the quality required; and
  • supporting the well-being of all our people.

Greater societal purpose

We continue to contribute to our greater societal purpose through:

  • continued corporate sustainability efforts and positive social initiatives where we see our people playing a role in uplifting our communities;
  • the response to COVID-19, where we have seen our partners and staff step up and become involved in various initiatives; and
  • our New world. New skills. programme.

Adapting to a changing world

Our success depends on recognising that the world is constantly changing, and responding with plans to adapt accordingly. To this end, we’re committed to continuing to offer our clients value, higher-quality and technology-enabled solutions. For our people, who are central to everything we do, we constantly seek to grow and engage them and acknowledge the difference they make.

Monitoring and evaluation

Having clearly-articulated strategic focus areas enables us to periodically check in and see how we’re doing against the targets we’ve set ourselves, without losing sight of our ultimate purpose — to build trust in society and solve important problems.
