Heavily used crossings need near constant repair, and the diamonds in Colton, where the Santa Fe's Third Subdivision (on which Union Pacific has trackage rights) crosses the Southern Pacific's Sunset Route saw near constant visits from the welders. While the welders repair one of the four crossings, Southern Pacific 8303 heads west toward the railroad's large West Colton Yard, about a mile ahead. The helpers on this train are a pair of Cotton Belt SD45T-2s and a Radio Control Car from the Burlington Northern that is testing on the SP.
