Great Northern NW5 No. 192 switches cars for the Lester River Turn, also known as the “Duluth Zephyr,” at Duluth Minnesota, on June 10, 2016. Only 13 rare EMD NW5s were built between December 1946 and February 1947, with ten built for GN, Nos. 186-195. The short hood behind the cab was originally equipped with a steam generator for passenger service, making No. 192 quite apropos for hauling trains on the North Shore Scenic Railroad.
