Remarks & Notes |
As US Army Locomotive 1880 enters Hanks Yard Limits it is greeted by a M1028 CUCV - Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle. Both the locomotive and truck are products of General Motors, albeit made 30 years apart. The 120-ton locomotive was built by Electro-Motive Division of GM in 1956 as Chesapeake & Ohio GP9 number 6160. Purchased by the Army in 1990 the locomotive had been rebuilt into a GP10 by Paducah Shops. Assigned to Fort Eustis in 2011 engine 1880 previously served at Fort Lewis, Barstow Marine Depot, and Fort Hood.
The five-quarter ton truck was built by General Motors Defense Division in 1986 and is designed to provide support rolls around military depots. This truck was Special Purposed to haul a AN/MSQ 103-B Teampack shelter for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama but has since been transferred to Virginia for supporting duties of the Fort Eustis Military Railway. |
