The Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts houses The Sharp Theater, The Myron and Elaine Adler Theater, and The Kresge and Pascal Art Galleries. The Berrie Center has developed a rich series of public programming including Arch Performances, which produces a guest artist series including performances in dance, theater, and concerts. The Art Galleries house contemporary art exhibitions. In addition, the Berrie Center is home to the Ramapo College School of Contemporary Arts with specialized facilities for photography, dance, music and theater production.
Arch Performances builds opportunities for discovery, learning, and engagement in creative processes, driven by the contemporary, interdisciplinary interpretation of the arts for the purpose of enhancing the human experience and transforming lives.
The Art Galleries are aligned with the School of Contemporary Arts and serve as a fertile resource for the College and area communities. In addition to faculty and senior thesis exhibitions, galleries present a vibrant, international contemporary exhibition schedule.
Ellis Island: Gateway to a Dream is appropriate for ages 6 through adult and addresses Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Social Studies Learning Standards.
A high-spirited musical about courage, hope, and the challenges of the immigration experience, “Ellis Island” celebrates the multi-cultural foundations of our nation with wonder, action, and heart. How far would you travel to find a better life? What if the journey took weeks under difficult conditions? If you answered “Whatever it takes,” you echo the feelings of the 12 million immigrants who came to America between 1892 and 1954. Ellis Island afforded them the opportunity to attain the American dream for themselves and their descendants.
