UPDATE: 03/06/25

Spring has arrived! This months weather will be jumping between the 70’s and high 80’s its time to get the bass bugs out! We’re still running guided trips on the Guadalupe river with river temps still safe for the trout we’ve been aiming for morning trips which seem to be the most productive. Noon is slow but the evening bite picks up with more dry fly action.

Guadalupe River: The river temperature is 50 degrees with flows at 62CFS. Nymphing will be effective in the mornings to noon successful patterns has been Flashback Pheasant Tail size 16-18, Guides Choice Hares Ear size 16-18, Zebra Midges(olive/Black)size 18 Barr’s Emerger size 18-20. Noon will be slow just make sure your flies are getting to the bottom size 6 split shot will help. As the evening bite turns on the fish will be looking up and a dry dropper set up will be productive. Good dry flies have been X-Caddis size 16(Olive/Tan), Alpine Ant size 16, and Stimulators size12-16. Beneficial Droppers have been Copper Johns size 18(red), 3Dollar Dip size 18, and Rainbow Warrior size 18-20. The streamer bite has slowed down some but and olive wooly bugger will land them in the net.

San Marcos River: Low with flows at 97CFS top water flies are effective in the early mornings then switching to subsurface flies during the day. Sink line or intermediate sinking fly line will be crucial, if you don’t have sinking line Rios VersiLeader will become your best friend out there ensuring you flies sink down. Effective flies has been Top water frogs, Drunk n Disorderly, Ball Peen Craw, and Bennetts Lunch Money or any small bait fish pattern with slow stripes. Fish can be found along the banks and structure. Slow is key right now.

Canyon Lake: 48.4% full. All the ramps are still closed and will continue to be that way. We’re currently not running trips out there right now but we’re looking for alternatives. Bass can be found along the hydrilla and points. Drop offs are where most of the fish will be. Early mornings are ideal or evening the mid day tends to be slow. Similar to the san marcos sinking line will be critical. Be sure to take some Clouser minnows, Murdich minnow, and Bennetts lunch money.

We have all the gear and flies listed above in the shop and still some availability for trout trips before we transition in to bass season. For additional information stop by or call the shop (830)9644823. Stay fishy and we’ll see y’all on the water - Jordan Bracamontez
