Saturday Night’s Main Event returned to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New Jersey. The night included a lot of reasons to watch, including Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes finally colliding with the Undisputed World Title on the line.
This match closed out the show on NBC, with Chelsea Green’s WWE Women’s United States Championship win going on second to last. Kevin Owens’ Undisputed WWE World Title shot also received a bit of attention with a video package before everything kicked off.
Fans in New Jersey were amped up for this match, and both Superstars received a decent reception. Of course, Cody Rhodes was the overwhelming babyface in the match, with Kevin Owens getting booed heavily. Jesse “The Body” Ventura also sat in on commentary alongside Michael Cole and Pat McAfee for this main event match.
This was a back-and-forth match, and the two received about twenty minutes to give it their all in the squared circle. After several near falls, and bringing the fans to a fever pitch, they finally rounded the corner toward the finish of the match.
In the end, the finish came after the referee took a bump outside the ring and that blew a chance for Kevin Owens to win the match. Another referee ran down, but Cody Rhodes kicked out. Then Rhodes got a Superkick before he accidentally took out the second referee with a Cody Cutter. At that point, Owens got a steel chair, and he brought it in the ring, but Cody nailed a Cody Cutter and a Crossroads on the chair without a referee around. Then the referee counted to three and Cody retained his title. In the end, Owens didn’t use the chair, but Cody did.
After WWE Bad Blood 2024, Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes in the parking lot. Later on, Owens said that whatever happened to Randy Orton was Cody Rhodes’ fault. After all, Owens laid Orton out with a piledriver during the November 8 episode of SmackDown, and he’s been out of action since then. We will have to see what is next for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but Cody Rhodes will likely close out 2024 with the title.
