How Can You Know Jesus as Your Savior?

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9). Salvation is that simple. It’s accepting the free gift from God that heals the relationship every one of us has broken with Him (Romans 3:23-24). Through three simple steps, salvation offers a new hope, renewal, and life-change to those who believe.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Admit that you are a sinner and daily fall short of what God wants for your life. God loves us and wants to have a loving relationship with us (1 John 4:7-12). Yet, through our sin (our selfishness, pride, and stubbornness), we have run away from God (Genesis 2:17, 3:5; Mark 7:21-23). Salvation requires that we accept responsibility for our disobedience, turning from certain death to new life in Him (Ezekiel 18:30-32).

Believe in who Christ is and what He has done for us. Christ is fully God (John 1:1), and He lived a perfect, fully human life (Hebrews 11:6) to die an unfair death on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). Salvation confesses that the Lord—through His longstanding, unwavering kindness—can forgive us for our past and future sins (Romans 2:4).

Commit to follow Christ. Salvation is just the beginning of our change from a life distant from God to a new life in Christ (Romans 3:9-26). For true real-life transformation, this means to daily deny our selfish desires and:

          • pick up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23; Mark 8:34)—lay down our life for others
          • pick up our mat and walk (John 5:8)—move as Christ asks
          • pick up God’s provision and share (Mark 6:43, 8:8)—care for those in need
