Dr Trung Nguyen, a Professor (Education and Engagement) of Leadership and Management at RMIT’s Business School, holds a PhD in Management from Monash University (Australia), a Master’s degree in the Economics of Development, and a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Trade. He has further enhanced his expertise through executive education at Wharton Business School (USA).
Trung teaches across diverse areas, including leadership in the digital age, the economics, and the political economy of global business. As Head of the Management Department, he leads six business programs, including the MBA program.
His research focuses on international business, management, and leading digital/smart transformation. As the co-leader of RMIT’s APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities hub, he actively engages in collaborative research and supervises PhD students, with three completions and several ongoing projects. His contributions have been recognised through awards such as the RMIT PVC Award, the College Research Excellence Award, and the Vietnam Minister of Education and Training Merit Certificate.
Beyond academia, Trung advises local governments on digital strategies and consults for organisations like KPMG and VinaCapital. He advises, speaks, and chairs major forums such as the HCMC Economic Forum and contributes to regional conferences hosted by ASEAN and the World Bank. He is a co-founder of initiatives such as the APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities Forum, the Global Business Forum, and CEO Talks. As a regular trainer for large organisations, Trung has co-led programs for Vietnam Airlines, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment and Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Dr Trung Nguyen has demonstrated effective leadership as Head of the Management Department at RMIT Vietnam, overseeing disciplines and programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is dedicated to attracting and developing talent, prioritising learner success, and building strong, diverse, and trust-based teams. His department has excelled in teaching & learning, engagement and applied research, contributing to RMIT Vietnam’s growth and impact in education, research, and industry collaboration, aligning with Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals.
