Triumph Thunderbird was created with the intention of capturing the American market and 650cc parallel twin engine variant from Speed Twin was used in the vehicle. The paper dart logo and the thunderbird name and the enlarged engine were the result of research by Triumph with the American customers. 6T Thunderbird was released to public in Paris and the test drives gave out 92mph over a distance of 800kms (500 miles). The bike also gained much needed popularity with the American motion picture “The Wild One” starring Marlon Brando. The bike manufactured by Triumph Engineering Co Ltd was also called as TR65 or 6T. Production starting from 1949 till 2010 featured several version of engines that included the Twin during 1949 to 1986 and triple in 1995 to 2003 and the Twin engine from 2009 till end of production. Predecessor of the Thunderbird was the Triumph Speed Twin and is offered with a 4-speed transmission system.
