Volvo V50 was introduced at the 2003 Bologna Motor Show as the Volvo S40 family car’s station wagon version by Volvo cars. Both these vehicles were produced at the Ghent, Belgium facility. It shared the Ford C1 platform with the Mazda 3 and Ford Focus for Europe. V50 is loaded with features like theatre lighting, Volvo Intelligent Vehicle Architecture and a floating centre stack. It is integrated with a 5.2 litre straight-5 petrol turbo engine, four wheel drive, DOHC design with variable camshaft timing and the engine produces 217hp and 236 lb-ft torque. A diesel engine providing 178hp is also available for this version in Europe. In the US sales is restricted to only ten states and to the V50 PZEV. The Special Vehicle division of Volvo Cars made a concept car for the V50, which produced a 340hp and this car was launched at the Speciality Equpemnt Market Association show held in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004.
