The RVV-SD is the export variant of the Russian-made R-77-1 missile, the official production version of the Ukrainian R-77 that was canceled due to lack of funding and poor relations between the 2 countries post-Cold War. The R-77-1 improves over the R-77 by being a mass-produced weapon and introducing the capability to loft, which would extend the already poor range of the R-77 by a decent amount. Multiple countries currently operate the RVV-SD with the most being in China and India. The original R-77s export variant is known as the RVV-AE and is also operated by those countries as well as many other airforces that operated modernized Soviet fighters. (by mac)
