Gift wrapping ideas for Christmas

Want to make your gifts look extra special this year?

Then, why not ditch shop-bought rolls in favour of a festive DIY gift wrap? It’s a fantastic way to add a personal, thoughtful and traditional touch to everybody’s present whilst keeping costs to a minimum!

To get you started, we’ve rounded up five of our favourite Christmas gift wrapping ideas.

Whether you are a gift-wrapping-pro, or struggle to work the tape dispenser, these ideas are really easy to master and are guaranteed to look beautiful. All you need is some recyclable paper, a selection of gift wrap twines and strings, and a few decorative items, and you’re good to go.

  1. Brown kraft paper

Brown paper packages tied up with string.

You really can’t beat them. They’re classic, understated, yet incredibly charming. And if you’re feeling arty, why not dig out some white paint and add a festive picture to the front of the design?

Kraft paper works incredibly well for this gift wrapping idea, particularly in combination with traditional sisal twine. And to complete the look, simply add accessories and gift tags.

This really is one of our favourite things!

  1. Matte black

Black DIY wrapping paper can be bought online in huge rolls, often for a great price – and is an easy way to give your gifts a striking, sophisticated look.

Simply wrap each present as tightly as you can, creating a neat square or rectangle wherever possible. Tie a high-contrast white cotton cord around the outside. Then attach either a sprig of evergreen or a snow-covered pinecone. The dark background will really make these presents stand out.

  1. Character silhouettes

It wouldn’t be Christmas without reindeers, penguins and snowmen. So, why not add them to your DIY gift wrap and give your presents an adorable touch?

Hundreds of stencils are available for free online. Just do a quick search to find your favourite, print it out, and trace the character onto paper of your choice. This could be bright and patterned, or something simple and rustic – such as pages from an old newspaper.

Either way, cut them out, stick them onto white paper and complete the look with gift wrap twine.

  1. Tiny baubles

This is a really cute Christmas gift wrapping idea, guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.

Start by wrapping the gift with plain white or black paper. And to give it a magical touch, thread mini baubles onto 2mm polypropylene rope and wrap it around the centre of the present – at least three times.

This rope can be bought in many colours, from hot pink through to dark grey. But for the festive season, we think red and green work exceptionally well.

  1. Fabric gift wrap

Rather than using paper, why not opt for a soft fabric instead? This can be incredibly eco-friendly and certainly makes the difficult art of ‘present wrapping’ very easy.

Place the gift in the centre of the fabric, gather it roughly at the top and tie it together using twine or string. No need for scissors or sticky tape. And you can decorate the fabric in any way that you wish.

An absolute genius gift wrapping idea.
