Critics Consensus

Flat, flimsy, and forgettable, Fate: The Winx Saga is a fantastical flop that fails to capture the magic of its source material.

Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Based, improbably enough, on an Italian cartoon series, it's surprisingly engrossing telly as showrunner Brian Young (The Vampire Diaries) and the genuinely scary Burned Ones get going. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Caroline Framke Variety By rejecting the aesthetic and vibe of its source material entirely for a pale imitation of other YA properties, Fate: The Winx Saga might just end up slipping through the cracks. Jan 23, 2021 Full Review Michael Cuby them. The Winx Saga features steamy romances, prolific drug use, and even a three-dimensional queer character in Dane, an incoming freshman who develops a small crush on one of the older boys in his class. Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Zehra Phelan 2 Minute Telly This YA adaptation leaves a lot to be desired, to be frank, it's nothing we haven't seen before with those age old-troupes that literally make you want to slap 99% of its characters. Rated: 2/5 Mar 18, 2021 Full Review Therese Lacson The Beat [Fate: The Winx Saga] ends up being just another teen show that failed so miserably it's only worth a hate-watch. Mar 3, 2021 Full Review Linda Maleh TV Insider With so many reboots these days, it's hard to think of many that actually feel warranted, but Fate does that by making the story its own, and updating it for teen and adult viewers. Rodrigo R ffs these critics deserve to get hated on, this show and Winx Club is awesome, we need a season 3, sign the petition on "change" site Winxers! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Charlene E For an escape into a different reality, this provides a easy, not to deep, stereotypical teen watch. Sure Stella's not like the cartoon version, but I like this version of her. Emotionally damaged due to an overbearing mother, I'm sure it's more relatable than the ever preppy cartoon version. Musa, the withdrawn Terra, the wants to be friends with everyone Aisha the overachiever & do-gooder Riven the misunderstood Sky the hero but needing saving himself Beatrix the power hungry snake Dane the easily mislead but good at his core They all bring a different relatable personality to the circle. Shows that are an exact copy of the OG never bring anything new to the table, so I'm happy with it. The storyline could be a bit better true, but for a real life adaptation of a cartoon it's acceptable, as I believe the key idea is to be about friendships & how even though everyone's different, they still grow a strong bond. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Zoe G This show is so great and addictive its super underatted I love it sooo much. Sure, it could be better but I still love it lots Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review you're a s Not worth my hours. Why is everyone so bitchy? Why is everyone drug addicts? And the over sexualation of young teenagers, having sex every darn episodes? Not to mention the whitewashing. "BuT tErRa iS flOraS coUsiN sO iTs nOt hEr" mhm, they only added her in season 2 to give us Winx Club fans fanservice. Musa's actress too? Musa in the original cartoon is east-asian (Chinese) and based of Lucy Liu. "sHe'S 00,539% SinGapOriAn sO shEs sTilL aSiAn" It's still blatant whitewashing because she is clearly not from the east part of Asia. Now on to Bloom and Stella. What did they do to my girls.... They were literally besties in the og, standing up for each other. Ans now you're telling me Stella wants Bloom dead because she's clearly in love with Sky (the dutchebag). Speaking of Sky, why isn't he royalty?? (Same with Aisha, Bloom). They made Bloom so annoying and a typical i'M nOt liKe othErs. Oh and I guess Aisha is there too. Wish they gave her some more depth than being just Bloom's babysitter. Yeah I know season 2 exists with the whole Grey thing blablabla, but she needed a Nabu. Also the clothing? I guess in season 2 it was fine (Flora literally looked gorg in everything). I remember the ball episode thingy and they arrived with their dresses, wow Brian Young, you really nailed that one ngl. Oh well, except for Terra! Because of course the plus size girl can't wear anything revealing because society!!! :D Oh and the transformations? Wait what transformations? Oh right the one where they spin a little bit and get some CGI wings!! *claps* Ngl the Bloom one in season 1 was SO TERRIBLEEE (like the show in general) the music....... Oh some more rant: they look older than 16, youre telling me theyre 16?!?!? I thought they were the professors lmao. Who are these random people? Dane, Beatrix, freaking Rosalind? Is Rosalind supposed to be Griselda if she was more evil? Or what. I forgot Riven existed in this shitty reboot lol. Anyway I only liked the series when it ended, bye thank you for reading my big rant about this shitty series. Glad it got cancelled. (Thank god Tecna escaped that hell). Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review tisya r "Fate: The Winx Saga" is a darker, more grown-up version of the "Winx Club" series. Some liked its mature themes and character development, but others felt it strayed too far from the original. It got a mixed response, with good acting but pacing issues. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Teagan M Utterly adored Winx Club as a child, and as a fan of the original material this has been painful to watch and not in a fun way. They took away the magic of Winx and riverdaleafied it . Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
