In February 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms raids David Koresh's Branch Davidian compound, a small religious community located just outside of Waco, Texas, triggering a drawn-out gun battle that kills four ATF agents and six civilians and wounds dozens more people. After a 51-day standoff, the conflict ends when an FBI assault leads to a fire that engulfs the compound, killing 76 Branch Davidians, including Koresh. Told from the perspectives of those who were there, including chief FBI negotiator Gary Noesner and survivor David Thibodeau, the six-part scripted series "Waco" dramatizes one of the most misunderstood stories in American history.

Waco brings its fact-based drama to life with an outstanding ensemble, though its sympathetic approach to the main character may offend some viewers.

Justin Burke The Australian Waco is an excellent addition to the subgenre. Nov 9, 2018 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Though Kitsch's impersonation of Koresh makes Waco worth sticking with, Michael Shannon matches that dynamism. Sep 6, 2018 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune As is Waco rates as a reasonably effective dramatization of what led to the siege, and little more. Aug 31, 2018 Full Review Joe Lipsett Murder Made Fiction Podcast - Bloody Disgusting It's clear that the series is unfairly biased towards the two figures who contributed its source material, ensuring that they come off in the best light, rather than telling the best story Nov 29, 2024 Full Review Kristian Harloff Schmoes Know A very sad story, but a very well-made series. It's a tough thing to watch, but you watch for the incredible performances, a must-watch if you're interested in true stories... Valeria M La verità non esiste più, ma il dramma e i pericoli degli estremismi militari e religiosi sono resi con intensità e chiarezza. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review E M Very hard to watch, but important. The performances are incredible. A gentle, non violent, brainwashed community faced by sociopaths hell bent on violence and are basically killers. The irony in a country were so much is attributed to god, that those in power would not listen to those who actually really believed in gods will. Why in hells name did those monsters seem so convinced destroying people was righteous or even legal. I'm not religious but this was so wrong. I hope those in the FBI in charge were court marshalled. Or something. I want to read the lead negotiators biography, he was a good man in a den of evil. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/24/23 Full Review Jose A Paramount did a great job assembling a great cast. Knowing little information on the Waco Siege has definitely interested me and grabbed my attention when learning of this thrilling and heart breaking story. Michael Shannon showed just how empathetic and serious he was as Gary Noesner. This is an example of American History where both sides were not innocent but also had problem with accountability. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review Gareth v A more than solid telling of some of the darkest days in America's recent history. Kitsch is great as cult leader Koresh. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Marshelle B Don't bother watching this. Apparently Showtime forgot that some of us were actually alive and saw what was happening in real time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review J S What a terrible drama! A lot of good actors were wasted on a horrible script. Terrible, saccharine expository dialogue. I can't believe some of them still decided to take the job after reading the script, and then didn't just walk off set once actually shooting these horrible scenes. Unrealistic and stereotyped depictions of every side that we know are not based in reality (like that David was somehow sexually repressed for religious reasons, that ATF was planning a full scale attack from the beginning, and so on). Hilariously cartoonish ATF PR lady with perfectly coifed 90s glam hair and power suits, but dark almost black-red lipstick so we all know she's evil, popping out of the shadows when planning the 'attack' well before it happened. Now, I think the ATF and FBI were totally in the wrong in the real event that happened, but I just can't stand the cartoonish way it's depicted here, as well as the general factual inaccuracies. It seems they felt they had to resort to exaggerations and hyperbole because they thought the audience was too stupid to see how messed up the Feds were just based on the real events. Same with the expository dialogue, again, a major pet peeve of mine! I remember an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger that came out soon after the real event that was based on it, and I gotta say this is about the same level of quality as that one, lol. At least that only last one episode! I guess I'd recommend that instead, haha. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
