A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting his wife and causing her harm at their home on Monday night.
Owen Naughton, of Loughbaun, Aughrim, Ballinasloe in Co Galway, was brought before Ballinasloe District Court.
The court heard that Sharon Naughton remains in a serious condition in the intensive care unit at Portiuncula Hospital and her condition has deteriorated considerably in recent days.

Mr Naughton made no reply when he was formally charged last night.
Gardaí objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charge.
Judge Deirdre Geraghty refused bail and remanded Mr Naughton in custody to appear at Harristown District Court by video link tomorrow.
