Solenodons are venomous mammals. They resemble very large shrews, have extremely elongated snouts, long, naked, scaly tails, hairless feet, and small eyes. Their diet consists largely of insects, earthworms, and other invertebrates, small reptiles or amphibians. They have also been known to feed on fruits, roots, and vegetables. It grunts like a pig while sending signals.
