    Marriage - S. Levine

    Introduction

I want to thank you and congratulate you for downloading the book, "God and Marriage, His Blessing for Mankind." This is a book that explains to readers the part that God plays within the field of marriage. It's a great reminder to those who walk down the aisle to remember that God's gifts to mankind are many, and that the holy state of matrimony is something to be forever thankful for.

The role of God does not end when the couple leave the church, and it's important to remember that He is there, all the way through that marriage for those who make themselves open to his presence, but also to those who are errant in their ways. God supports His children and through the blessing of marriage, gives them the opportunity to live happy and fulfilled lives, which include the potential of having children.

This book looks at the roots of His involvement in marriage and serves as a reminder to those who seek nearness to Him that God is always present and that he has a plan for his children. Making Him a part of the plan isn't in question. He is always there. However, welcoming him into your hearts is when the blessing of marriage is truly appreciated. It's not just a special day for the bride and groom, but is a day when believers came into the presence of God to make specific promises that will lead to a future of unity. That's a very important step. However, many young couples forget the wonder of God and lose themselves in the wedding planning instead.

Sometimes, putting aside all of those things that can be bought with money, and fully understanding God's role in the marriage can make marriage a much richer place, as after all of the guests have gone home, the marriage needs the foundation of strength that belief in God permits. This book will explain His role, as it is this which makes the foundations of the marriage stronger and much more likely to pass the test of time.

The book is written from a non-denominational point of view, because all religions, all over the world celebrate the union and place God as a central part of why marriages need those foundations.

Chapter 1 – Where Love Comes From

    ––––––––

God is love. He doesn't just stand for it. He is the perfect example of what love is. In whatever religion, the love of God is a known thing. The creation of mankind and the rules that were laid down when mankind was given choices mean that God had such respect for his creation that he put his love for his son on the line so that people could understand what true love and infinite love was all about. Whether you are a Christian or not, the love of God is something that believers have no room to question.

One could explain all of the logical feelings that people have. Senses of hot and cold are easy to explain. Senses of touch are also very simple, though try explaining emotions and you come to a place where the subject matter is very abstract. These emotions differ so much depending upon circumstances. There is one emotion that stands out from the rest and it comes in four different forms:

    Infatuation

    Unrequited love

    Mutual love

    Unconditional love

These are the kind of love that can happen in anyone's life, though through marriage, and the vows made before God in a religious ceremony, the most common to come into marriage is mutual love. It's not an exclusive type of love, because people who are married can equally love children and still has enough love left over to give back to God. Thus the love that people feel for each other is almost limitless and abundant.

Let's examine how any of the other types of love comes to play in marriage. Infatuation has no place in marriage as this kind of love is surface love which may feel very strong, though is based on the way that the viewer perceives the loved one, rather than upon any mutual kind of lasting love. Infatuation can feel extremely real and strong, but it's unlikely to pass the test of time, since infatuation has a tendency to disappear when reality hits in and the target of that love doesn't live up to expectation. Alternatively, the person infatuated may be using that infatuation as a distraction in life and may no longer have the need once real love is discovered.

Unrequited love is the kind of love that is going nowhere. It too has no place in marriage because it's like loving God and not being loved back. That's not even feasible. It's one sided and a marriage is two sided. In fact, a marriage based on religion has more than two sides because of the belief structure of the couple. With the support of God, the relationship is strengthened beyond measure.  However, unrequited love is love put in a cup and thrown away. It's wasted love because it will never be reciprocated.

Mutual love is the best kind of love for a marriage. This means that both parties love each other and respect each other. There is an understanding between them that sometimes doesn't even need words. There is warmth and a feeling of being at home when the loved one is near, and this is the kind of love that strong marriages are based upon. Mutual love gives a good foundation for a marriage, though there is stronger love, as you will see in future chapters.

Unconditional love is the love that one feels for a child and for God. This kind of love survives regardless of circumstances. If a child turns out to be a disappointment, the love is no less and the acceptance of the child's decisions may be harder because usually someone who feels this wants the child to do good things with his/her life. The decisions made by the child may not look to be in keeping with that philosophy, but the love is never brought into question, regardless of the tests a child puts the parent through.
