1. BE GOING TO
1.1 Plans and intentions. You have already made a decision. Im going to visit my parents next Saturday. She is going to go to the stadium tomorrow. They are going to be here next week.

1.2 Predictions based on what we see. Look at the dark clouds. It is going to rain. Look at those children playing with a knife. They are going to cut themselves.

2. WILL
2.1 Instant decisions. Things in the future that you did not plan. Context: The phone is ringing. I will answer it. Context: I realize I dont have money. I will go to the bank.

2.2 Promises. I will love forever. I will help you tomorrow.

2.3 Predictions based on what we think. 3. In the future we will not have water. In the future we will probably live on Mars.

SIMPLE PRESENT. Something that already has a programmed schedule. The movie starts at 9 pm. The plane leaves in two hours. The classes begin after lunch.

PRESENT PROGRESSIVE. Something already agreed regularly with other people. They always have a time reference to differentiate it from an action that is being developed at the time. I am meeting my friends after class. I am visiting my mother tomorrow morning. We are having dinner with Susan tonight.

1.1 Talking about a decision or a plan you made before the time of speaking. I am cold. I am going to put the heater on. Mr. Rossi isnt here. I am going to put you through to his assistant. I know you want to see the town. I am going to show you around.

1.2 Expressing something that is certain to happen in the future. 2. WILL Look at those black clouds. It is going to rain any minute. He has studied really hard. He is definitely going to pass his test. The roads are all blocked. We are going to miss our flight.

2.1 Making a decision on the time of speaking (usually in a dialogue) A. Its terribly cold in this room. A. May speak to Mr. Rossi, please? B. Id love to see the town. B. Ill put the header on for you. B. Hold on. Ill put your through. B. Really? OK. Ill show you around.

2.2 Expressing a possibility in the future (usually in conjunction with an expression of possibility). It will probably rain tonight. I hope he will pass his test. If we dont hurry, well miss our flight.
