Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Go, Tell It
For years, we have sung the old Christmas carol, Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born! Seven billion people are in the world, and more than half of the worlds people groups are still unreached. God wants us to take seriously His vision of Revelation 7:9 of that day when around the Throne of God every tribe, nation, and people will be represented there because of Gods marvelous grace and the gospel witness of His people. Each year, we have the opportunity to tell it on the mountain around the world through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention. With every penny going to the foreign field, this special offering at the end of each year provides the largest portion of the International Mission Boards income. Annual giving for 125 years has been inspired by the missionary to China, whose first collection of gifts in 1888 was so sacrificial and visionary. Our convention gave $149 million last year, but the goal is now $175 million. Our missionaries present the gospel to more than 1.4 million individuals, baptized more than 266,000 new believers, engaged 133 new people groups, and started more than 24,000 legitimate churches last year. If every one of our churches would meet the goal, we could send 576 more missionaries to the field this year who are fully trained and doctrinally sound. Our 4,800 current overseas personnel, along with their 4,000 children, are living out the truth of Jesus on the field, most of them in very dark and dangerous places. Fourteen hundred individuals are currently in an active application file; yet over half will not be able to go if we continue at the current rate of giving. We believe that we can do more together, as cooperating churches, than we can do separately. We are grateful for our missionary partners, which our budget also supports. Throughout our marriage, Janet and I have followed the example of the teaching of her godly parents, who believed that more should be given to missions at Christmas than to any other individual in our family. Pray about your gift at the end of this year. Please see the Cooperative Program Christmas tree in the Commons, which highlights our International Mission Board ambassadors for Christ. Look at their pictures and pray for them. May we step up to the plate and send the called and equipped to the nations. My pastor friend, Johnny Hunt, said: Remember that you will never miss anything you give away; we are never more like Jesus than when we are giving. May each of us do now what we will be glad we did when we stand before the Lord.

Monday, December 16 8:00am-2:00pm we need volunteers to deconstruct the Living Christmas Trees (lunch provided). Tuesday, December 17 12:00pm5:00pm we need volunteers to rebuild the Choir Loft (snacks provided). If interested, please call Tina at 596-8600 x239.

Your gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering are an investment with eternal impact. Lottie Moon offering envelopes are in the Worship Center chair pockets. Every penny of this offering goes directly to the International Mission Boards overseas budget. This annual offering undergirds thousands of missionaries sent from our churches through IMB, and all for a single eternal purpose: making disciples in the name of Jesus. This is what it means for all of us, together, to be totally His.

Kristin Yeldell will teach us from the book Gideon, by Priscilla Shirer. When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky. Gideons story is so much bigger than that...bigger than one man and his mark on Israels people. Join us Tuesday at 9:00am or Wednesday at 6:30pm in the Worship Center as you are encouraged to recognize your weakness as the key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life. Janet Wicker will teach us from a study she has written titled Trustworthy: A Study of the Letter to Titus -- What to Do When you Wait! This study will employ the inductive Bible study method in personal verse by verse examination of its important doctrinal themes and life instructions.

Begins Tuesday, Jan 7 and Wednesday, Jan 8

FBA fourth grade students and their partner school in London participated in a live interactive science demonstration hosted by NASA. The experiment was designed to show the cause and diameter of craters on our planet and on the moon. Students from both schools made and tested hypotheses. After the presentation, FBA contacted Answers in Genesis (AIG) to research the Genesis account of creation explaining the origin of craters. This activity proved to be a great way for students to solidify their biblical worldview about Gods creation (I Peter 3:15).
