occupations provide instruction to students at specific
grade levels or in specific subjects. In addition to knowing
the content of what they teach, they need to know how to
work with students. They often need to encourage them
to learn and to change their approach to meet individual
needs.
Counseling and Mental Health Services People who
work in this group of occupations help others who are
faced with personal, family, or career problems and
decisions. They assist them to see their choices clearly
and to make a choice that seems best. They may work in
private offices, clinics, schools, or hospitals.
Professional Support Services People who work in this
group of occupations provide a variety of special services
in school settings. These individuals help students with
personal, physical, and educational problems. Examples
of these occupations are school counselors, social
workers, psychologists, and speech pathologists.
Governance People who work in these occupations are
involved with managing the country, a state, or a city.
Many are elected to a public office by voters. Others are
employed by the elected people to help them with their
job duties. Examples of such occupations are members of
Congress, governors, state officials, council members,
and their staffs.
Therapeutic Services People who work in this group of
occupations deal directly with patients to provide
whatever kind of medical care or treatment they need.
Many kinds of technicians, nurses, and medical
assistants who work under the direction of medical
doctors are included.

Performing Arts People who work in this group represent a variety of specialties that are needed to produce
theatrical and musical productions. These specialties include those who plan the details of a production and
direct it, agents who find jobs for actors or musicians, people who design costumes and stage sets, and crews
who handle lighting and other technical things. This group also includes the actors and musical artists that
provide the entertainment.
Journalism and Broadcasting People who work in this group gather information, write news stories, and get
them out to the public. Reporters get the facts by observation and interviews and write the news. Broadcast
and sound technicians, supervised by engineers, operate the equipment used to distribute the news by radio
and TV.
Marketing Communications People who work in this group of occupations make and carry out plans to
market a product or service. Some draft and manage the plans. Others do art work, write text, and design ads
to promote the product or service in print form, radio, or TV ads.
Visual Arts People who work in this group create works of art, using oils, watercolors, photography, plaster,
clay, or computer software. Some create art simply to express their own creative ability. Others create the
images requested by customers to be used in their products or marketing pieces.
Agribusiness Systems People who work in this group of occupations apply technology to many activities in
the field of agriculture. These activities include preparing food, marketing it, and shipping it.
