Suzanne Collins is an American author best known for three young adult dystopian series: The Underland Chronicles, The Hunger Games trilogy, and When Charlie McButton Lost Power. Some of her most notable accomplishments include being a New York Times bestselling author and having The Hunger Games books adapted into a highly successful film franchise. Collins draws inspiration from her background and experiences as well as influences like Greek mythology to craft compelling stories that examine the human experience and consequences of war.

Born in August 10, 1962
Earned her M.F.A. from New York University in Dramatic Writing

Began her writing career in childrens TV:
Clarissa Explains it All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo,
Little Bear, Oswald, Cliffords Puppy Days, Generation O!

When she was young, she moved around with her Dad in the Air Force;
also lived in NYC for 16 years.

She currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, two children, and two feral kittens.
She is 51 years old.
Influences:
Talked into trying to write childrens books by author James Proimos

Her father was an officer in the Air Force, a military specialist,
a historian, and a doctor of political science.
He taught Collins the how and why and after effects war could have.
Both The Underland Chronicles and the Hunger Games Trilogy examine
various angles of war.

The Hunger Games was inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur,
as well a moment channel surfing between reality TV and Iraq war coverage.
Notable facts:
Collins was named one of Time magazine's most influential people of 2010.

In 14 months, 1.5 million copies of the first two Hunger Games books
have been printed in North America.

The Hunger Games has been on the New York Times Best Seller
list for more than 60 weeks in a row.

The Hunger Games is being adapted into a movie
(with Collins working on the initial screenplay).
