2.0 General: -
The ADRx31A is member of Ashida Numerical Relay family (Aditya Series)
design to meet demand of low and medium switchgear control. The
ADRx31A is a 2OC and 1EF relay with instantaneous high set and
programmable output to simplify feeder protection wiring. The relay is
available in two types 1) without communication ADR131A and 2) with
communication protocol ADR231A. In rest of document relay is
referred as ADR131A but it is also applicable to ADR231A. The
ADR131A continuously monitors all 2 Phase and Earth current, through CT
connections. The high-speed micro-controller samples this current through
a 12-bit A/D converter. The micro-controller performs powerful Digital
Algorithms to find out Amplitude of current signal, and then this value is
use for protection and metering function. All measurement is tuned to
fundamental frequency. Each input current is also displayed on 16 x 2 LCD
display for metering. The Relay is having main three functions 1) Protection
2) Self-Supervision 3) Measurement. The Relay can be supplied with
different model. It can be either Definite Time or IDMT.

Protection Relay ADR 131 A Rev.: 05 Dt. 05.09.07
3.0 Protection Functions: -
The ADR131A give maximum benefit/cost ratio. The ADR131A give all
the advantage of numerical relay at affordable cost. Following is
summery of different protection functions provided by relay.
ANSI IEC Protection Functions
50 I >> Instantaneous Over current Protection (OC-Inst.)
50N IE>> Instantaneous Earth Fault Protection (EF-Inst.)
51 I>t, Ip Time Over current Protection (Phase) (OC-IDMT.)
51N IE>t, IEP Time Over current Protection (Earth) (EF-IDMT.)

3.1 Over Current / EF Protection: -

The ADR131A has 3 sensing element they can be either 2OC/1EF (AM001xx)
or 3OC (AM002xx) or 3EF (AM003xx). The tripping current can be set to 50%
to 200% for phase and 5% to 80% for Earth Fault by Keys switch provided on
front panel. The unit has selection of IDMT characteristic of international IEC
standard, Very inverse / Extremely Inverse / Long Inverse and Standard
Inverse (both 3.0 sec and 1.3sec at 10 times). Or define time (C6). The
separate curve can be selected for phase and EF element. The unit also has
Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) from x0.01 to x1.0 for IDMT delay multiplication.
The instantaneous tripping function is having range of 200% - 3000% for
phase and 100% - 1200% for EF. A time delay also can be added in
instantaneous operation. The high speed CPU continuously monitor the all
four current inputs and compare with IDMT as well as instantaneous setting. If
any one current is above instantaneous setting the relay provide immediate
trip command bypassing IDMT delay. If the input current is less than
instantaneous setting but more than IDMT setting, CPU calculate IDMT delay
as per selected IDMT characteristic multiply it with TMS setting and provide
trip command if fault is persist even after this time delay.
All the settings are password protected to prevent unauthorised change.
The relay is available in verity of model for different application
AM001xx are 2OC/1EF IDMT over current relay for time graded feeder
protection.
AM002xx and 3OC IDMT over current relay for time graded feeder
protection.
AM003xx is 3EF relay for application such as transformer differential
protection like EE CAG34.
The xx specify the back terminal lay out.
Note:
3OC (AM002xx) or 3EF (AM003xx) are not covered in this manual.

5.0 Supervision Function: -

5.1 Self-supervision: -
The continuously keeping track on its internal hardware and the
movement it detect any failure of any component, it give message on
LCD display, This feature is very useful to give pre information to avoid
any mal-operation. In such situation it uses some default setting and
remains in protection mode.

Operating Manual for Ashida Numerical 2O/C + 1 E/F Ref.: ADR 131Am05
Protection Relay ADR 131 A Rev.: 05 Dt. 05.09.07
6.0 Measurement Function:
In normal condition this display shows all settings. Via keyboard the
display can be program to show the actual current flowing through the
relay. If current excesses set value the relay gives trip command. The
type of fault is displayed on LCD display.
During the fault condition the relay measures the fault current and
store in non-volatile memory. The fault current can be read via
keyboard on LCD display, last 5 fault values along with tripping
counter can be view via key-board. All settings are save in Electrically
erasable read only memory and remain.

7.0 Electrical Noise Immunity: -

Utility and industrial environments are electrically very noisy. Electronics
protection equipment requires careful design and testing to ensure
reliable operation in switchgear. Ashida has applied its expertise and
more than 35 years of experience in field of electronics design to ensure
that the ADR131A operates when required, without nuisance trips.
Thanks to the latest micro-controller technology.

8.0 Setting Reliability: -

Any numerical or digital relay in which all settings are programmable via
keyboard or communication port, use some internal memory to store
these settings. Many relays use internal rechargeable batteries to
maintain these settings. In case of power supply fluctuation, batteries are
often unreliable, and settings get corrupted. In such situation, the relay
may mal-operate. Ashida uses special non-volatile memory technology,
which does not require any power source to maintain settings of the relay.
Once the relay is programmed, it maintains the settings more than 10
years even in the absence of any power supply. In case if internal fault is
detected in this section during the self diagnosis, then relay gives
message and take default settings stored in program memory to avoid
any mal-operation.
