Peter Pan The Redding Dance Cent re brings the tale of ageless Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and the Darling children to the stage on Satur- day in its produc- tion of Peter Pan. There will be two performances, at 1 and 7 p.m., at the Redding Civic Audi- torium. The dancers will also perform a medley of jazz, tap and modern dance pieces in a seg- ment called Applause. Clam- pus Vitas Las- sen Loomis club wi l l host t he second an- nual Horse Shoe Toss To u r n a - ment starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Shin- gletown Library on Highway 44 in Shingletown. The event will include a barbecue, music, snow cones, a raffle, vendors and beverages for kids and adults. Cost to participate in the contest is $20, with proceeds benefiting the Clampers historical plaque projects. The event winds up with a live band at the local pizza parlor in the evening. For more information, call 474-4737 or 474-3604. Peter Pan, aircraft show set for weekend Aviation Day Benton Airpark in west Redding will host its Aviation Day 2014 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Parking and admission are free for the event sponsored by Redding Experimental Aircraft As- sociation, Mt. Shasta 99s and Hillside Aviation. Activities include helicopter rides from Air Shasta and scenic airplane rides from Hillside Aviation, antique and experimental aircraft dis- plays, ultralight displays and radio controlled air- craft displays. The California Highway Patrol, PHI Air Medical and REACH helicopters will also be on display. Visitors can also check out a Vietnam War-era Huey helicopter. Volunteers from the local 99s, a female pilot orga- nization will serve a ham, eggs and pancake break- fast from, 7-11 a.m. Breakfast costs $7 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12. Exhibit: Siskiyou Vistas The Siskiyou Arts Museum will open its new exhibit, Siskiyou Vistas, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the museum, 5824 Dunsmuir Ave., Dunsmuir. The exhibit features works by Bruce Anthony, Genny Axtman and Daryl Brooks. Siskiyou Vistas features paint- ings of landscapes of Siskiyou County and capture the particular light and clarity of the mountains of Northern California. Admission is free. Each weekend through Labor Day a diferent band from an Oregon or North State school performs in free concerts. The nal winner will be selected in September and receive $5,000. Yreka Gold Rush Days Yreka will celebrate the Gold Rush from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at historic downtown Yreka. There, visitors will nd old-time re-enactments in front of the Franco American Hotel, gold mining demonstrations, vendors, food, activities for kids, historical hayrides and pony rides. Street Legal Drag Racing Head out to the Redding Dragstrip behind the Redding Municipal Airport on Saturday evening for street style drag racing. Saturday night is also Mustang Night, and old and new Mustangs will race for special awards. Gates open at 5 p.m., racing starts at 6 p.m. Entry is $5 per person, with kids 6 and younger getting in free. Find the dragstrip by taking Rancho Road east of Airport Road. Follow the signs from there. Spirit for the Flag The Redding Elks Lodge will host Spirit for the Flag and Patriotic Day on Saturday at the lodge, 250 Elk Drive. The Elks will hold its Flag Day ceremony at 2 p.m., followed by a Boy Scouts flag retirement ceremony. Participants are en- couraged to wear red, white and blue and bring old flags to be destroyed properly. The Redding Emblem Club will serve food from noon to 4 p.m. They will serve hot dogs and apple pie for a dollar each. Emblem Club members will also accept do- nations for local veterans causes. There will also be live entertainment, a display of vintage military vehicles, a veter- ans horse therapy demonstration and guest speakers.
