A Tour to China
By Alex Wang

Dear Winner
Congratulations! You have won an all-expense paid trip to Hangzhou, China, for four people! On this
all-expense paid trip to Hangzhou, you will experience the best of the best of Chinese culture, food and
scenery. This presentation will give you an insight into this trip.

Hangzhou
Hangzhou is the capital of the Zhejiang province.
As the famous The West Lake is in Hangzhou, it is considered the most important
tourist cities in China because of the natural beauty and ancient heritage. It is
commonly complimented as "Heaven on the Earth".
Italian explorer Marco Polo had written about this city in his travels.
This is also where the Grand Canal, a man made river that connects many rivers from Beijing to Hangzhou,
ends.
You will have to learn to use chopsticks because most restaurants don't have knives and forks. Even the ones
that do have knives and forks, the utensils aren't easy to use as the food is already cut to a fine width and
length so knives are no use and forks probably can't pick the food up well.

Day 1
You will arrive at the airport at 8:30am. One of our guys will pick you up and get a taxi. While you are
travelling in the taxi, you can see many beautiful floras that have been planted on the sides of the road.

By the time you get to your 5-star, luxury hotel called "Shangri-La", it will be
lunch time. You will probably be tired, so you can eat in the restaurant inside
of where you are staying.

You can spend the rest of the day at their pool, in the beautiful oriental style
garden which also has a pub, or you can admire the magnificent view of the
"The West Lake" from your room, which is right outside, you can also get a
relaxing massage, all of these are inside the hotel.

For dinner, you will walk 15 minutes on the "Bai Ti", a road with many bridges
including the renown "Broken Bridge". Driving is not permitted on this age old
road, so you have to walk. On the way, you can admire the grace of the most
known lake in the whole of China, "The West Lake".

You will be walking to the most famous restaurant in that region, "Lou Wai Lou". In the restaurant you
can expect to eat delicious food, the best of the best Hangzhou style cuisine. You can expect to eat
sweet sour fish, "Dong Puo" Pork and "Jao Hua" Chicken.

Day 2
For most days will eat a delicious Breakfast buffet with a mix of foods including Japanese Miso Soup,
Chinese "La La" Mian (Long noodles) and many western delights in the hotel.

On this day, you will explore the The West Lake (Xi Hu) and enjoy the delights that it
will offer. The West Lake is 5.68 square kilometres, with many bridges, roads and
restaurants surrounding it. For many years, Chinese scholars have written about the
beauty.

There are food stalls everywhere, so you can buy food and drinks if you get hungry.

You can ride a sightseeing mini bus around the lake. Try to get either a seat at the
front or a seat at the back, as they will provide the best view. After a full lap of the bus
trip, you can get off and go to the boats, where you can hire a boat to go around the
lake, which either you can man by yourself or you can hire a manned boat.

In the summer time, the lilies will be out and they will be so beautiful and also provide
a brilliant backdrop for photos.

For lunch, you can walk around and see what restaurants seem interesting, as there are many restaurants in
The West Lake.

You can also visit the Red Carp Pond, where thousands of red carp are fed. The pond is part of the Flower
Harbour Park, which is in the top ten beauties in The West Lake. As well as the pond, the park also has
zigzag bridge, pavilions and lots of beautiful scenery.

After you have fully explored The West Lake, you will return to the hotel. After a long day,
you will be tired so you will eat at the banquet style restaurant inside the hotel.

Day 3
On day 3, you will explore the things outside of The West Lake, like "Lingyin Temple". At night, there will be a
special surprise. For breakfast you will go to the breakfast buffet again.

After breakfast, you will catch a taxi to "Lingyin Temple". Lingyin Temple is a famous temple as it is one of
the three oldest temples in the whole of China. It can be traced a long way back to around 327-420 AD in the
Jin Dynasty. To get into the Temple, you have to pass through a section before it called "Peak Flying From
Afar", which has magnificent stone Buddhist statues.

On the left, you can see the Longjing (Dragon Well) tea fields and on the right is Lingyin Temple

When you finish admiring the temple, you will go to the Long Jing (dragon well)
tea fields. Unfortunately the harvest season has ended by this time so you
won't be able to see them harvesting tea but you can still enjoy watching the
tea makers make the on the heated wok, using their hands, notice that the best
tea will have three leaves to each shoot and they will be baby shoots. You must
sit down and enjoy some elegant tea accompanied by local countryside food.
Often in country restaurants there will be no menu, the owner will suggest to
you what to eat in the current season. Once your lunch has been finished, you
can walk around the fields to enjoy the scenery.

Finally, you will return to Shangri-La. You can relax for a bit before dinner. You
will eat at the hotel. When you finish dinner, you will go to The West Lake for the special surprise, "Ying Xiang
Xi Hu". Ying Xiang Xi Hu is a magnificent dance performed on a platform just above the lake, so it looks like
they're walking on water, with lights and fountains.

Than after a long day, you can rest.

Day 4
After the breakfast buffet, you will go to the Six Harmonies Pagoda by taxi. It is
near the Qiantang River. The octagonal Pagoda was built almost 1000 years ago.
This is one of the oldest buildings in Hangzhou. The Pagoda is 59.89 metres tall
with 13 stories but only seven are accessible interiorly.

You can grab a bite to eat around the pagoda as there will be quite a few
restaurants there.

Then you will catch a taxi to the 'Yan
Guan County' where you can spectate
'Tidal Bore', commonly known as
'Silver Dragon' (Qian Jiang Chao). You
will watch amazing, controlled,
tsunami like waves in this river. The
waves are literally tsunami like,
massive towering waves that attract
surfers from all around.

After the long day you can return to the
hotel in a taxi, but there is still one more
activity to do, so you'll only be staying
in the hotel for a bit.

For dinner, you can choose a restaurant in The West Lake.

The last activity will be strolling around Bei Shan Road. Strolling at night is
especially beautiful because there are fountains that are lit up with colourful
lights that respond to sound and music, all around the road.

and buckets for sale, circus shows, hand
crafted metal wear and old fashioned sharp weapons and Swiss Knives (be
careful as some weapons might be considered as contraband on airlines) as
well as many old fashioned toys including a spinning top controlled by
yourself as you whip it to make it spin not to mention the great food stalls
that may sell; paper thin sugar sculptures and candy apples
