3.0 Chapter Opener (Notes) Groups of cells with similar functions combine to make up tissues. Groups of tissues with similar functions combine to make up organs. Groups of organs work together in organ systems. The health of the individual is directly related to the health of the cells. Ways which we have of learning about the health of the cells, tissues, and organs of our body are: o X rays o MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) o Tiny cameras that transmit images along optical fibres, o Infrared photography o The use of radioactive dyes
It is important to know how cells work because we are entirely made up of cells. Cells make up tissues and tissues make up organs. If we are sick, it is because our cells are sick. If we know how cells work then we can do things to prevent getting sick or create medicines that will treat our cells and therefore our whole body.
