TCU showdown coin toss for K-State

Oklahoma State coach Gundy
praises both Big 12 contenders

Kansas State wide receiver Tyler Lockett, left, finished

Saturdays game against Oklahoma State with six receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.

One major difference

between the Kansas State
and Oklahoma State football teams when they met
last Saturday was the experience level. The Wildcat
roster is loaded with veteran players and the Cowboys are a young squad.
That was one factor involved in K-States runaway 48-14 victory.
This is a very mature

team, Gundy said of the

Wildcats on the Big 12 teleconference Monday. Their
quarterback (Jake Waters)
has a lot of games under his
belt. He struggled last year
and this year he is playing
with confidence. The majority of their team is veteran players. They are a really good football team.
In my opinion, on a neutral site, they can very well
play with anybody in the
country. They lost to Auburn at home and missed

three field goals and had

every opportunity, and
weve seen what Auburn
has done throughout the
year. They are a really good
football team. They play
mature and have veteran
leaders. I was impressed
with their team.
The maturity and experience will be important for
the No. 9 Wildcats (7-1, 5-0
Big 12) when they face No.
6 TCU (7-1, 4-1) at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday in Fort Worth. It
will be only the third road
game for the Wildcats,
who won at Iowa State and
Oklahoma.

Kansas freshman forward Cliff Alexander lived up to the preseason hype and then some Monday. The big man scored
14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots in his first game in a KU uniform, an 85-53 rout of WU.

Freshmen shine in debuts as Jayhawks win first exhibition

it was Cliff Alexander who

LAWRENCE The
hardscrabble trail taken by
the Washburn basketball
team in early November
has its rewards.
Visits to Kansas, Oklahoma and Kansas State
within a six-day span help
fund trips many Division
II squads never experience
like the Thanksgiving

treat the Ichabods will

enjoy in Hawaii this year.
At times it doesnt
seem worth it. Not when
Washburn was completely
overmatched in the first
half, scoring just 13 points
before eventually falling
to Kansas, 85-53, in Allen
Fieldhouse.
Still, there is more to

Getting to play in this

crazy.

Preseason prognostications can sometimes be

a tricky thing with any
number of factors going
into ranking teams.
Some teams like
Carroll and Miege just
jump out as teams to beat

pose a dilemma.

And you know what?
Six of the eight preseason

Chiefs legend Holmes

And now that Holmes has

Me and Priest are cool,
Charles said after Sundays 24-10 win over the

torch. Im just happy to be

I came here knowing they

At the end of my career,
I hope to be in the Hall of
