FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Public Relations Student Society of America

Advancing the Future Professional by Offering Experience

DOVER, DE(March 27, 2014) Public Relations Student Society of America is the leading organization for students who
are interested in public relations or communications. Its purpose is to allow students to gain experience as PR professionals.
PRSSA is made up of over 11,000 students in 300 plus chapters, that Delaware State University is proud to be apart of.
Benefits of joining PRSSA range from enhancing your education to broadening your network and launching your career. The
mission of PRSSA is
(1) to serve members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional
development opportunities; and
(2) to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.
PRSSA was awarded honorable mention in the Bateman Case Study Competition in 2012, a competition for PRSSA
chapters. In Spring 2014, Delaware States PRSSA chapter became more active than it had been the past couple of years,
making its mark on the campus and gaining student popularity. The organization has required applications for its members
and clients which had not been done in previous semesters. This allowed the chapter to have the most dedicated students
for these clients. Clients include Toastmasters, Curls and Coils, National Black Nurses Association, and Dawns Photos.
Committees have been made in order for the students to keep up with their client. While the students are not paid by their
clients, they get the advantage of experience cannot be simply taught in a classroom that others who are not in PRSSA may
not have.
Aside from hands on experience with clients, the organization has skill slams and speakers. This skill slams are ran by a
member of PRSSA and they chose a skill they believe every PR student should have for their professional development.
Speakers have experience in the field also come talk to the students, giving them an overview of their job duties and what
needs to be done to stay on the right track. While it is helpful to the students of PRSSA, these informative programs are open
to all students of Delaware State University.
PRSSA is made up of more than 11,000 students and advisers organized into 300 plus Chapters in the United States,
Argentina and Colombia. We are headquartered in New York City, and led by a National Committee of PRSSA and PRSA
members. We have a rich history of support from our parent organization, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA),
which offers professional development, networking opportunities and news. PRSSA helps you enhance your education,
broaden your network and launch your career in public relations.
