The document describes four techniques for entering the pattern of an airport sector: parallel entry, tear drop entry, direct entry, and 20-30-40 entry. The parallel entry involves flying parallel to the inbound track for 1 minute before turning into the pattern. Tear drop entry requires a 30 degree turn into the pattern followed by a 1 minute flight before intercepting the inbound track. Direct entry simply requires turning onto the outbound heading after overflying the beacon. The 20-30-40 entry performs turns and flights for 20, 30 and 40 seconds respectively before intercepting the inbound track within the direct entry sector.
