Weekly Overview SK

Date: 19.1.15

This week we will be inquiring into small creatures found in the garden. If you have any related books, toys and/or posters about this unit that
we could borrow, please send them to school. If you found insects/bugs in your garden or homes, please could you bring them to school so we could investigate and
explore them.
Please be informed that School Photographs will be on Tuesday 20 January. Please make sure that your child comes to school in his/her complete school uniform.
Please make sure that your child wears her/his sport shoes.
We will be making crafts and we need lots of empty toilet rolls and egg cartons. Please if you have them, kindly bring them to school. Thanks

Continue developing independence at the beginning and end of each day finding their names and hanging them up,
putting water bottle and diary folders in the correct place
Developing independence at lunchtime and taking responsibility for eating their lunch and packing it away.
Focus on being polite saying please, thank you, may I and remembering not interrupt when someone is speaking
Speaking and Listening: Be confident in talking during Show and Tell and be polite in listening when someone is talking
Phonics: review the letter sounds learnt and introduce the letter sound of the week. The letter Gg. We will be making a
garden scene picture and find out some small creatures that begin with /g/ sound.
Reading/ Books: The Bad-Tempered Ladybug, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, Are you a Ladybird?
Pre-writing skills: writing letters, drawing pictures

Number: finding/identifying numbers that are 1 less than/1 more than and writing the numbers 1-10
Shapes and Positional words: drawing heart and oval shapes
Sorting: We will be learning how to sort objects. We will be cutting and pasting pictures of small creatures and sort them
whether they have wings or no wings; they have legs or no legs etc.

This week we will explore about small creatures that can be found in the garden. We will be inquiring how these creatures
look like, what they do, how they survive and how are they important in our environment. Children will be making different
crafts related to bugs/insects.
