qs ad 1000 mL
PROCEDURE:
1. Dissolve sodium benzoate in 200 mL of boiling sterile water.
2. Add methylcellulose powder and stir well for 2-3 minutes (or 1 minute on low speed if using
a blender).
3. Qs ad to final volume (~800 mL) of ice cold sterile water.
4. Stir well for 10 minutes (or 2-3 minutes on low speed if using a blender).
5. Transfer to appropriately sized container and label.
6. Seal top of containers with tamper resistant tape or cellulose bands, so opened bottles can be
identified easily. Label.
NOTE: Before using, refrigerate overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours until creamy white liquid
converts to a clear gel.
STORAGE: REFRIGERATE
STABILITY: 6 MONTHS
(or 30 DAYS AFTER OPENING)
