DO AVOID LAST MINUTE

GUESTS
The RSVP date was set two
to three weeks prior to the
big day, the deadline has
past and a few guests are
now requesting attendance
three days before the
wedding. A catering
company will typically allow
one-week notice before the
wedding for a final head
count; food production
takes place promptly after
this deadline.
Ultimately, this common
scenario spells trouble.
When more guests are
added during the catering
production,
additional
fees equate to pay for the
guests dishware rental, the
extra trip to the grocery
store, and labor.
A bride deserves to know
who is showing up, Luna
stressed. She recommends

charges and call guests as
the RSVP date approaches.

overlooking Lake Tahoe.
Once we arrived at the
resort, we talked to the
concierge about the trail
and were told it would take
several hours to hike to the
top, and the trail was closed,
as they were gearing up
for ski season. Little did I
know that Mark had called
the concierge about the
trail a few days before and
had been told many times
that there is no trail that
we can hike, but thanks to
Google Maps he spotted
trails from a sky view. After
establishing that there was
indeed a trail to the top of
the peak, we decided to
start walking over to where
we thought the trail began.
It was getting late in the
afternoon and we had seen
construction workers along
the beginning of the trail
earlier, and I said it probably
wasnt a good idea we go
up, since it was going to be

Mark insisted we go up.

Heading up the trail, we
kept stopping to listen
for sounds of bulldozer
equipment, assuming that
once the workers saw hikers
they would kick us off. Part
way up the trail we both
paused. What was that?
Shhh
In the distance we heard a
bulldozer coming down the
trail. We both looked at each
other and said hide! We
climbed up the embankment
and ducked behind the
bushes. As they passed we
decided to wait in the bushes
until all signs were clear. Two
dozers, a water truck and
a squirrel went by. As were
sitting in the dirt waiting to
be sure the coast was clear,
we heard talking from two
people who were holding
cameras and heading up the
hill.

After a few short minutes

and a lot of jokes made, we
got back out and trucked
on upward. It took longer
than expected to hike
to the top, but the view
was a gorgeous 360 span
overlooking Squaw Valley
on one side and Lake Tahoe
on the other. Mark set out
a blanket and we popped
open some of our favorite
Hard Cider. Sitting and
overlooking Lake Tahoe, I
noticed over my shoulder
the couple with cameras
taking pictures of us.
I said, Thats weird, they
are really taking a lot of
photos.

Mark made a few comments

like, Good, maybe they
can get a few good ones.
Then Mark took my hand
and brought me over to

ancy Tilford is an

of thinker. The owner of

to take an unconventional
approach at making a living
after the economy slumped

I dont like punching-in

realized it would be more
fun to sell in a store.
That store, Gypsy Chic,
now lures antique hunters
and collectors from all over
Placer County and beyond.
The catch? Its only open
four days a month.

Gypsy Chic is not so

much a store as an event,
explains Tilford. We have
a new theme each month

clothing to the public. We
change it each month so
it stays fresh; we keep our

Start a Pinterest board and

share it with your bridal
party, family, and wedding
planner so they can keep an
eye out for items you may
be searching for.
Whether a brides taste is
more rustic or Victorian,
start
early,
suggests
Tilford.
Once
youve
determined what you need,
the hunt takes a little longer
than just ordering up twelve
of something.
Kajimura also advises brides
to give themselves plenty
of time and opportunity to
find the right decor for their
big event.
I did an amazing vintage/
rustic chic wedding last
fall that was absolutely
amazing! she explained.
The bride and her mom
actually brought me a
photo of a display they saw
inside of Gypsy Chic when
Nancy did her Wedding
Pop Up Shop. The mother

of the bride is also an

antique guru and spent
months collecting vintage
and antique items to use
as decor for the wedding.
She collected a hundred
sets of silver plate flatware,
silver plate trays, mercury
glass, crystal candelabras,
and all sorts of other
beautiful knick knacks. The
wedding would not have
been so beautiful without
all of the items that she
spent months and months
collecting. Even after all of
her time and money spent,
they still needed to rent lots
of things from my inventory
to achieve the look they
were going for.

the look.
For instance,
most weddings have tables
covered with tablecloths to
the floor. But you could rent
vintage tables and leave
the tablecloths off and
see the beautiful legs on
the furniture. That creates
a much more unique
looking wedding than just
tablecloths on tables with
something vintage on top.

Tilford also advises brides to

think outside the box when
it comes to their wedding
decor. Vintage can be a
lot of different things, she
explains. Look at things
that you have at a wedding
that can be changed to be
vintage and really change

Chandeliers are a big

Tilford. You can hang them

you can use them indoors.
