Assessment: : Childrens learning will be evaluated through teacher observation at center time,

Lesson Reflection: The lesson was so much fun and the children learned so much, mainly because it
was developed on their emerging interest. They loved interacting with Leo the Lion. They learned
to be respectful, kind, and understanding of their peers during those interactions. They were also more
attentive to the daily activities of circle time due to their anticipation of Leos involvement. Dramatic
play extended to the outdoor environment. They discovered that pretending to be a variety of wild
animals was even more fun than being super heroes. Zoo Keeper may I encouraged them to take
turns, to win and lose and to think about what wild animal action their classmates had not yet come up
with. Wild animal cracker math made math play versus work; they graphed, counted, added
subtracted, made families, and role played. The more the children explored and learned about the wild
cats and animals the more engaged they became. They loved building wild animal habitats in the
block center and over time they became extravagant and lifelike. The lion craft turned into an
unbelievable opportunity for the children to express themselves. Some of them used yarn to create the
mane, others used finger paint and rice, and still others enjoyed the use of macaroni. They begged to
do Monkeys teasing Mr. Alligator and Going on a Lion Hunt Im not Afraid. I had the best two
weeks with my class during this lesson. The children were more engaged, respectful, curious, and
anxious to please. They couldnt wait to see what the next day would bring. The next step to this
lesson plan is a field trip to the zoo. I have already taken two classes there, so I have nothing but
excitement in the knowledge of what that aspect adds to the wild cats/ wild animals unit. After
having such success in a child directed long term lesson I plan on exploring the opportunities more in
the future. Their inquiring minds seemed to bring out the best in all involved.
