Contour plot at the end of the analysis:

Figure 4: Von Mises contour plot at the end of the analysis.

Discussion of the Von Mises contour plots:

Figures 3 represents the Von Mises (equivalent stress) contour plot before the crack start to
propagate

Stress concentrate ahead at the crack tip (crack act as a stress concentrator).

Figure 3 corresponds to the first step of the analysis.

Material is in the elastic deformation range (stress is below the yield stress
everywhere in the material) but the stress at the crack tip is above the yield stress and
hence crack deform plastically.

Contour plot is symmetric with respect to the crack.

Figure 4 represent the Von Mises contour plot at the end of the analysis.

Von Mises contour plot is still symmetric along the crack.

The sample is not broken completely at the end of the analysis and these reasons are
mention in the discussion of the next section.

Reaction force sum versus time plot:

Figure 5: Graph between reaction forces sum and time along the Z path.

Discussion:

The reasons of not completely breaking the specimen are may be one of the
following:
Not enough number of time steps are provide to the analysis
Not enough displacement (boundary condition) is applied to completely break
the sample.

The Figure 5 corresponds to the traction separation law, where the time is indirectly
related to the displacement. Each time step corresponds to the displacement increment
applied in the analysis.
