Knowledge Content: Teacher shares her predictions with the class. Asks for some examples
from students. Hands out article and it is read together with pauses at times to relate back to
teachers predictions and also any student predictions (highlight both differences and
similarities between text and predictions). Both are helpful when it comes time to read the text
because you are thinking about it, which is important.
Time: 25 minutes

Activities: Give them a sheet that asks them to consider liow predicting helped their
understanding of the article. (They may need to re-read the article by themselves). Want if it
helped them understand the article and why it helped (with exarnples from their predictions
and the text). Work on finishing that one question at home. (if over time completing the sheet
the next class and handing all their work in is fine).
Time: l0 Minutes
Close: Finish the question sheet about predicting. Be sure to bring in the completed question
will be collected. And next day we are going to
look at newspapers.
Time: 2 minutes before bell
Differentiation: Whole class, guided reading to help students, a teacher example and student
examples will be incotporated. While they will be working alone on the question sheet (it is
about their own work habits) teacher support is always available and when they are working;
circulating around the room will help to make sure they utilize that support.
