I am happy to learn that the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Kshatriya Seva Samithi, A.P., will be
held on the 3rd February, 2012 at Shilpakala Vedika, Madhapur, Hyderabad. The Kshatriya Seva Samithi,
Hyderabad has completed 50 momentous years of yeomen service to the community and is working as
a link between other communities and the Kshatriyas in particular. I am happy that the Kshatriya Seva
Samithi is striving to bring the entire community under one platform. It is also providing educational
scholarships for economically weaker and academically bright students and providing other services like
employment, matrimonial, health services, technical training etc.
I am glad that the Kshatriya Seva Samithi is also promoting social, cultural and literary activities and
providing information to its members. I take this opportunity to congratulate all the members of the
Kshatriya Seva Samithi and their families on the completion of 50 years.
I wish the Golden Jubilee Celebrations all success.

I am glad to note that The Kshatriya Seva Samithi A.P is organizing its Golden Jubilee function, on
completion of its 50 years on 29th December 2011, on 03rd February 2012 at Shilpa Kalavedika, Hyderabad
and bringing out a Souvenir to mark the occasion.
I am sure that the lead role taken by the Samithi in the formation of The Federation of Kshatriya Seva
Sanghams in the year 2002 with the involvement of the Southern States and later The All India Kshatriya
Federation encompassing the Kshatriya Rajput entities, thus bringing togetherness of the community for
coming to the aid of the economically backward families, has already proved its mettle. A common
agenda is the hallmark in our efforts.
I am equally happy that your Samithi has been so active in regularly offering several welfare services
in the form of scholarships, educational assistance (Vidyadan), old-age and widow pension, grant-in-aid
for self-employment, interest-free educational loans for higher studies etc., to the economically backward
families of the community.
It is a wonderful occasion for The Kshatriya Seva Samithi A.P, to have come thus far, over the last
five decades, and celebrating its Golden Jubilee on 03rd February 2012 at Shilpa Kalavedika in Hyderabad.
The yeoman service and the proactive measures initiated by your Samithi will go in a long way in realizing
the dreams of our forefathers, ushering in a society of equality among the widely dispersed Kshatriyas.
I wish well the Samithi in its endeavours and wish the event all success.

I am extremely happy that the Kshatriya Seva Samithi of Andhra Pradesh, one of the earliest
organizations founded to work for the welfare of the Kshatriya Community is celebrating its Golden
Jubilee on February 3, 2012.
I still remember the days when stalwarts like Sri. P. V. Raju, Sri. P. V. N. Raju and Sri. Neeladri Raju
and others toiled hard to build a sound foundation for the infant Samithi in the early years. I was closely
associated with them in some of the activities of the Samithi during 1967-70 when Sri. P. V. Raju was the
President.
The dedication of those who carried forward the objectives of the Samithi with a missionary zeal has
made the Samithi a pioneer among Kshatriya organizations working for the welfare of the downtrodden
among the Kshatriya Community and helping hundreds of needy students to pursue higher studies.
We all Kshatriyas feel proud of the yeoman service that the Samithi has rendered in the last 50 years
steadily extending succor to widows, the poor to take up self employment and interest free loans to
students to pursue studies in technical and professional colleges.
It certainly is a matter of pride when the Samithi has extended financial help to the tune of about Rs.
2 crores besides medical assistance of over Rs. 1 crore through sponsors to the needy.
In fact the All India Kshatriya Federation of which I was founder President till recently is inspired by
some of the noble activities of the Samithi and has drawn up similar plans to extend help to the poor
especially, students, girls and women of the community all over India.
I still cherish the happy memory of our efforts in organizing a mammoth All India Kshatriya Conference
in Bangalore in 1983. I can never forget the key role played by the Samithi along with our other organizations
in Tamilnadu and Karnataka. In fact, the All India conference and later the convention at Vizag helped
the realization of the dream of creating an All India Kshatriya Federation bringing all Kshatriaya
organizations and Kshatriyas in general under one umbrella to work for the welfare of the community.
I wish the Golden Jubilee celebrations all success and the Samithi a very bright future in the social
welfare activities.

I am delighted to know that The Kshatriya Seva Samiti, A. P. is completing a very significant and an
eventful journey of fifty years in serving the financially challenged Kshatriya community.
My heartiest congratulations and salutations to the President and the Office Bearers of the Samiti, all
of whom have individually and collectively contributed enormously to the successful endeavors over a
period of five decades.
I am particularly impressed with the Samiti's noble objectives, full of challenges and, the sustained
impact it has had in uplifting the financially challenged and marginalized sections of The Kshatriya
community in a mission mode. I am sure that these initiatives have had a multiplier and a cascading
effect on the society, thereby contributing to India's emergence as a young, healthy, dynamic, and
enlightened and a vibrant nation with sustained economic growth.
On behalf of All India Kshatriya Federation. I convey my best wishes for a very successful Golden
Jubilee Celebrations on 03 February 2012 at Hyderabad and would like to state how proud we feel as a
community with the gracious presence of the Hon'ble Vice President of India, on this momentous occasion.

As we all know The Kshatriya Seva Samithi A.P is the mother organization in AP for extending
social services to our community members who are looking for help.
For this, Samithi established infrastructure for generating regular source of income and also having
Corpus fund, from which an interest generating is also another source of income from which on its own
strength and could able to continue in extending services to poor and needy of our community members.
Samithi mainly extending services in the area of education scholarship, interest free education loan,
financial assistance for self employment, old age pensions, medical care etc..
Samithi is successful in promoting the Federation of Kshatriya Seva Samithis & the All India Kshatriya
Federation for getting connectivity and achieve unity among our community and Rajputs which is going
to the real asset for building our strength. As on today there are 34 registered Samithis affiliated to
Federation of Kshatriya Seva Sanghams and 64 registered samithis are affiliated to the All India Kshatriya
Federation.
I have all the appreciations for people who have worked with Samithi for last 50 years for achieving
the above goals.
I am very happy with the blessings and support of our elders, we could able to purchase two acres of
land for building the infrastructure for running an institute for coaching and counseling, personality
development and support for the employment.
For upliftment of our society in the area of attitude work culture and tradition, I felt it is necessary for
our community to have centralized training institute with residential accommodation mainly for girls and
boys of hailing from rural background.
For coming 50 years our Samithi should become a nodal point for our community in extending
service to meet the changing and growing needs.
I am extremely happy and privileged to be the president of the Kshatriya Seva Samihti-AP during the
tenure of Golden Jubilee year.
I wish for Golden Jubilee function all the success, for Samithi a bright future in extending service in
the social welfare activities.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
It is indeed a great occasion of celebrating the Golden Jubilee of The
Kshatriya Seva Samithi, Andhra Pradesh in the august presence of our Chief
Guest Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Honble Vice President of India and presided by
Shri E.S.L. Narasimhan H.E the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. We consider it a
great privilege for having spared their invaluable time and appreciate for this kind gesture.
We are grateful to our Guests of Honour Shri N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Honble Chief Minister of
Andhra Pradesh; Shri Digvijaya Singh, AICC General Secretary and former Chief Minister of Madhya
Pradesh and Shri Narendra Singh Rajawat, Chairman - All India Kshatriya Federation, for having shared
their space and time with us.
We do acknowledge the great spirit of camaraderie of our guests from all parts of the Country,
who made it to this function despite the short notice of preponing of this function and we are thankful to
them. Thanks are due to all the Samithis & individuals in obliging me with rare information.
We are grateful to all our elders, advertisers and all those who helped in bringing out the Golden
Jubilee Souvenir in time and special thanks to those who have contributed their Profiles and Authors of
different Articles to the Souvenir.
Coming to the home front, the Samithi acknowledges the strenuous journey through which the
different Committees are drawn to discharge their responsibilities and the personnel associated with
those Committees and we appreciate their commitment.
Special mention is made to the Members of the Souvenir Committee, who toiled hard to give a
shape to the Souvenir, considering the volume of work at every stage of its preparation and that too
against all odds and running against time. The working team is indebted to Sri C.Suryanarayana Raju,
the Treasurer of the Samithi, who provided all the required support, stretching himself to the limits.
Special thanks are due to the external graphic specialists S/s Nitya Sai, and Nagarjuna; the office
staff P.Dharma Raju (COO), Smt. D.Renuka Padma and Office Assistant Subba Raju for their total
dedication, hospitality and timely help. I will be failing in my duty if I do not acknowledge the services of
Sri R.Gandhi Raju, our Hostel Mess in-charge and Smt. Subrahmanyeswari, spouse of Mr.Subba Raju,
who looked after the hungry souls.
My sincere appreciation to my small editorial team of S/s K.Satyanarayana Raju, D.Krishna Varma
and P. Jagannadha Raju for their unselfish stint; to the Laser Dot team and Silver Prints for their professional
work. I also record the services of Sri Dayanandam for completing the Mementos in a short time span.
The ebullient President of the Samithi Sri P.Raghava Raju deserves full compliments from one
and all for his direction and giving freehand to all the Committees in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Personally, I have enjoyed penning this Golden Jubilee Souvenir, though it affected my
professional work in the last two months, all in the good cause of the Samithi.

During the above period, the Samithi Executive Committee was headed by Sri P. Raghava Raju as
the President and Sri D. V. Raju as the Secretary.
This arrangement worked well during the 1970s & 1980s, when the strength of the Patron & Donor
members was small and it became unwieldy when the Patron and Donor membership rose substantially
in the mid 1990s. It was consciously decided to reconstitute with prominent persons, in the form of
ELDERS COUNCIL.
The composition of the Elders Council is separately addressed in the following pages.

GOLDEN
JUBILEE YEAR
Historically speaking,
the roots for The
Kshatriya Seva Samithi
A. P lie with the Rajaputra
Samajam formed on 29
December 1917 at Kakinada, East Godavari
District. In those times, the activists of the Samajam
used to collect a nominal amount during the
auspicious occasions, like marriages, from the
performing families. The monies so collected were
used for assisting poor students in their pursuit of
studies. So, in a way, our forefathers had the vision
of imparting education and in their own way helped
realize the dreams of the financially challenged
ones.

KSHATRIYA SEVA SAMITHI-AP SERVICE ACTIVITES FROM 2003 to 2012 (Amounts in Rupees)
S. No ACTIVITY
Objectives
AIKF is a service oriented Federation for extending support to the community in attaining unity and
connectivity. Ours is a non profitable social organization. Last four & half years we were able to establish
the Federation activities over most of the country by conducting meetings in Metro cities and Districts
Headquarters.
The All India Kshatriya Federation is pursuing the following objectives with missionary zeal:1. To work as coordinating Agency for various Seva Samithis, Sanghams, Societies, Samkhyaas,
Samajams, Parishats, etc. located in the State with similar objects to serve the Society at large
irrespective of Caste, creed or Religion.
2. To advance/ promote educational interests of the people & for the said purpose establish, manage,
maintain or assist them.
3. To promote Social, Cultural and Literary activities.
4. To provide medical facilities, to the poor and needy for the said purpose.
5. To institute and award fellowships, scholarships, sponsor students for higher studies, financial
assistance to students etc.,
6. To locate Regional offices of the Federation.
7. To provide periodical information of its activities to the member Samithis.
8. To identify special needs of the community at large and provide needy service.
9. To train or arrange to train & guide prospective candidates for various competitive examinations.
10. To assist and guide educated unemployed in seeking employment & for Self employment to
needy persons.
Began in an attempt to mobilize and bring under one umbrella, all Kshatriyas in the South through
the All India Kshatriya Federation in 2007, has in a short period become an all India Movement. The
Federations objectives and its efforts to reach every nook and corner of the country has evoked very
encouraging response. Starting from Visakhapatnam Annual Sammelan in 2008, then organizing meetings
at Jaipur, Ahemadabad, Delhi, Patna, Lucknow, Bhopal, Chandigarh and Second Annual Sammelan at
Nagpur and Third Sammelan at Bhopal, Fourth Sammelan at Jaipur, Governing council meeting at Varanasi
& Agra the Federation has grown from strength to strength.
The Federation is planned to build multi utility complex for providing Counseling, Orientation and
Technical training institute with separate Hostel for Boys and Girls, Old Age Home, Orphanage with an
office complex along with guest room facility. For this we have identified and purchased land at Faridabad
(Delhi), land at Hyderabad. Building the infrastructure will take shape very soon. There is very good
response from a large cross section of people, who are willing to extend support for building this
infrastructure.

INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION - Contd...
By 4000 BCE, a distinctive, regional culture, called pre-Harappan, had emerged in this area. (It is called pre-Harappan
because remains of this widespread culture are found in the early starta of Indus civilization cities.) Trade network linked
this culture with related regional cultures and distant sources of raw materials, including Villagers had, by this time,
domesticated numerous crops, including peas, sesame seeds, dates, and cotton, as well as a wide range of domestic
animals, including the water buffalo, an animal that remains essential to intensive agricultural production throughout
Asia today.
Town-planning: In some of the excavations, the remains of entire cities have been unearthed. From these it is observed
that a Harappan city was protected by huge walls built on all sides. The walls had watch-towers at regular distances.
Seals : Square seals or coins have been found in the excavations at various places. They were made of the powder of a
particular white stone. Besides, seals of ivory, clay and metals, too, have been found. These seals bear the pictures of
animals and manlike figures. At the top, letters are engraved in a script which has not yet been deciphered. Historians
believe that such seals were used in rituals or for trade.
Earthenware : Shapely earthen pots are one of the characteristics of the Harappa civilisation. Several specimens of such
earthen pots have been found in excavations. One city on another : At Mohen-Jo-Daro, the remains of cities built above
the other have been found. From those remains it appears that the original city at the sit perhaps got buried due to some
reason. After a period of time, another city was built on the same site. Seven such layers of construction have been found
at Mohen-jo-daro.
The Great Bath : A hug spuare bath of 56 meters x 56 meters has been found at Mohen-Jo-Daro. At its centre there is a
tank measuring 12 meters x 7 meters and there is a tank measuring 12 meters x 7 meters and 2.5 meters deep. There are
spes leading down to the tank. The tank has been built in baked bricks in such a way as would prevent seepage of water.
There is also a provision for draining and re-filling the tank form time to time. The Harappan people seem to have given
special attention to facilites for cleanliness and hygiene. Their town-planning was systematic.
The facilities provided in the Harappan cities clearly indicate that these citis must have had an administrative system
which laid down rules of town management and implemented them strictly.

YOGA
- Compiled by D.V. Raju
Yuj, which in Sanskrit, means to unite, is the root of the word Yoga.
Patanjali, the early exponent of Yoga, is the author of Yoga Sutras. These were written
in 200-300 BC.
Pasupati seal, discovered by John Marshall at the site of the settlement, is said to
feature a Yoga pose.
Ancient texts that mention Yoga include the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad and Bhagavad
Gita.

Q
IT IS MORE TIRING TO STAND THAN TO WALK - WHY?
While there might be some psychological elements to play, the physiological forces are probably dominant. When we stand gravity pulls
the fluid in our body down. THe fluid can then pool in the legs and feet, putting pressure on the muscles and, eventually, even pain.
When we move, the contraction of the muscles pushes the fluid back up, and the veins contribute by sending blood back to the heart.
Walking increases the circulation not just to our heart, but all over our body, including to non-insignificant organs, such as your brain.
Even sitting for a long time can cause DVT (deep vein thrombosis), when a boold clot develops. Keeping the legs perpendicular to the floor
(most often, while being seated), so it's easy for fluid to build up, still another reason why we are antsy (just like a three-year old who has drunk
too much coke and had no access to a bathroom) on flights or on long road journeys. To the extent that antsyness while standing or sitting
straight causes us to fidget or move, our discomfort is serving an evolutionalry advantage.

INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION
The Indus Civilization is among the world's earliest civilizations. It peaked around 2500 BCE in the western part of
South Asia. declined during the mid-2nd millennium BCE and was forgotten until its rediscovery in the 19020s by R.D.
Banerjee.
Geographically, it was spread over an area of some 1,260,000 sq km, comprising the whole of modern day Pakistan and
parts of modern day India and Afghanistan. Thus there is an indus Valley site on the Oxus River at Shortugha in norhern
Afghanistan (Kenoyer 1998:99) and the Indus Valley site Alamgirpur at the Hindon River is located only 28 km from Delhi.
At its peak, the Indus Civilization may have had a population of well over five million.

Q
INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION - Contd...
The Indus Civilization is still poorly understood. Its very existence was forgotten until the 20th century. Its writing
system remains undeciphered. Among the Indus civilization's mysteries are fundamental questions, including its means of
subsistence and the causes for its sudden disappearance beginning around 1900 BCE. We do not know what they called
themselves. All of these facts stand in stark contrast to what is known about its contemporaries, Mesopotamia and
ancient Egypt.
To date, over 1,052 cities and settlements have been found, mainly in the general ragion of the Hakra-Ghaggar River and
its tributaries. Among the settlements were the major urgan centers of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, as well as Lothal,
Dholavira, Ganweriwala, Kalibanga and Rakhigarhi.
Additionally, there is some disputed evidence indicative of another large river, now long dried up running parallel and to
the east of the Indus. The dried-up river beds overlap with the Hakra channel in Pakistan, and the seasonal Ghaggar River
in India. Over 500 ancient sites belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization have been discovered along the Hakra-Ghaggar
River and its tributaries (S.P. Gupta 1995: 183).
In contrast to this, only 90 to 96 of the over 800 known Indus Valley sites have been discovered on the Indus and its
tributaries. A section of scholars claim that this was a major river during the third and fourth mellennia BCE, and propose
that it may have been the Sarasvati River of the Rig Veda. Some of those who accept this hypothesis advocate designating
the Indus Valley culture the "Sarasvati-Sindhu Civilization", Sindhu being the ancient name of the Indus River. Most
archeologists dispute this view, arguing that the old and dry river died out durign the Mesolithic age at the lates, and was
reduced to a seasonal stream long before the Vedic period.
The Indus civilization was predated by the first farming cultures in south Asia, which emarged in the hills of Valley. The
best-known site of this culture is Mehrgarh, established around 6500 BCE. These early farmers domesticated wheat and
a variety of animals, including cattle. Pottery was in use by around 5500 BCE. The Indus civilization grew out of this
culture's technological base, as well as its geographic expansion into the alluvial plains of what are not the provinces of
Sindh and Punjab in contemporary Pakistan and Northern India.

POST INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION
After the collapse of the Indus Valley Civilisation, a new wave of people entered India. The Aryans came from
central Asia and they probably entered Inida through Afghanistan after 1500 BC. There were probably waves of invasions
over a period to time rather than just one. The Aryans were a seminomadic race of pastoralists.
At first they wandered about with their herds of cattle rather than live in one place. They had2-wheeled chariots which
allowed them to subdue the native people. By 1,000 BC they had learned to use iron. However in time the Aryans settled
dwon and became farmers.
Sowly a more orderly and settled socity evolved. Tribes became kingdoms. The Aryans became the priests,
rulers and warriors free peasants and merchants. The subdued people became the slaves, labourers and artisans.
In time this stratified society crystallised into the caste system.

The Hindu religion also evolved at this rice rather than crops like barley. By 600 BC rice cultivation was flourishing
in India. With a more settled and orderd society trade and commerce florished. In time people began to live in towns again
and writing was re-invente. By 600 BC a highly civilized socity had emerged in India.
Althoug Buddha was born in India about 483 BC, the religion he founded failed to take root in the country. At approximately
the same time the Persians captured the extreme North-west of India. Alexander the Great destroyed the Persian Empire
and penetrated the far North-West of India.

POST INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION Contd....
This new empire was rich and trade thrived. Its capital was one of the largest cities in the ancient world. In 296
Chandragupta abdicated in favour of his son Bindusara who pushed the frontier of the empire further south.
The greatesh Mauryan ruler was Ashoka (296-232 BC). He conquered Kalinga (Modern day Orissa). Afterwards he
declared he was appalled by the suffering caused by war and decided against any further conquest.
Ashoka also converted to Buddhism. He decreed that the Buddhist Principles of right conduct should be engraved in stone
pillars or on rocks throughout his kindom to teach the people how to live. Asoka set about pacifying and consolidating
his empire. However despite his conversion to Buddhism Mauryan rule was authoritarian and punishments for
wrongdoers were severe.
After his death the Mauryan Empire declined, as all empires do. It suffered an economic dicline and political
instability as different brothers strived to become kings. A general assassinated the last Mauryan ruler in 185
BC. The general then took over running the empire and founded the shunga dynasty. However in 73 BC the last
Shunga ruler was, in turn, assassinated. They were replaced by the Kanva dynasty which ruled form 73-28 BC.

POST INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION Contd....
The influence of the Mauryans penetrated into Southern India. In the time of the Mauryans the farmers
there became more advanced. By the first century BC organised kingdoms had grown up and trade and commerce
were flourshing there.
THE INDO-GREEKS : After Alexander the Great's death his empire was split between his generals. The
various successor states fought each other until a strong state emerged in Bactria (roughly modern Afghanistan).
The Greek rulers of Bactria attempte to control Northwest India.
About 185 BC King Demetrius invaded India. About 160 BC one of his successors, king menander conqquered
most of northern India. However after the deth of Menander this empire broke up into separate states and
Indian civilisation developed without European influence.

THE KUSHAN : Indian now faced a new invader. Nomads from Central Asia conquered Bactria about 120
BC. They then settled down adn gave up their nomadic lifestyle. They were spilt into 5 tribes. One of the tribes,
the Kushanas conquered the others. They then turned their attention to Northern India. Gradually they conquered
more and more territory. Successive kings carved out bigger and bigger empires in Northern India.
The Kushan Empire reached its peak under King Kanishka (about 78 AD to 114 AD). During his reign
Northern India was prosperous and did much trade with the Roman Empire. Kanishka was also a patron of the
arts, which flourished. However after his death the empire declined and brok up. By the early 3rd century AD
India was once again split into small states.

Q
POST INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION Contd....
THE GUPTA EMPIRE : A new empire was founded early in the 4th century AD by Chandragupta. After his
death in 335 AD his son Samudragupta (335-375) conquered the whole of Northern India and much of Central
India. India once again became prosperous and stable and much trade was done with China. Mathematics,
astronomy and medicine flourished. Literature aslo blossomed. This was the age of the great poet Kalidasa.
However Gupta rule was less strict than Mauryan rule. Punishments were less harsh and provinces of the
empire were given some autonomy. The Gupta Empire reached a peak under Chandragupta II 375-415 AD.
However it then went into decline. The Gupta Empire broke up in the early 6th century.
THE HUNS : In the mid 5th century AD, the Huns, a fierce and warlike people from Central Asia invaded
Northwest India. However about 460 AD they were repulsed by Skandagupta (454-467). Nevertheless the
Huns returned at the end of the 5th century. This time they conquered most of North-Western India.
However their rule lasted no more than about 30 years. About 528 AD the Indians, led by a ruler called
Yashodharman defeated them in battle and drove them out.
