Technical Support: Anaglyph Image Generation

The Anaglyph Generation tool produces 3D simulations of terrain from a DEM and image by computing a trigonometric distortion on one color band to create a red-blue anaglyph. The user selects the DEM and image files, optionally chooses a band for multiband images, and names the output anaglyph image. The tool accepts only file coordinates and may crash if trying to automatically modify batch commands due to issues with its variable handling.

Anaglyph Image Generation

The Anaglyph Generation tool provides a simple means of producing a color anaglyph simulation of the terrain in
3D using a DEM and an image. Sometimes seeing an image in 3D makes it much easier to interpret the data
and to distinguish the details, such as the comparative height of neighboring peaks and where the valleys run.
The anaglyph image is created by computing a trigonometric distortion (or shift) on the imagery displayed in one
of the color bands.

Input DEM: Enter the name of the DEM file to process.

Input DEMs should have statistics calculated to ignore zero because minimum elevation values are important.
The default file extension is .img. Click on the

icon to open the File Selector dialog.

Input Image: Enter the name of the image file to process. This can be a single or multi-band file. The default file
extension is .img.
Click on the

icon to open the File Selector dialog.

Band: If the input image is a multi-band image, use these nudgers to select the appropriate DEM band.
Output Image: Name your output image and click OK to generate your Anaglyph image.
PLEASE NOTE: The Anaglyph Image generator accepts file coordinates only, though there is no explanation in
the online help as to why no other coordinates are accepted. When using the "Modify Batch Commands
Automatically" option the software may crash due to a segmentation violation. Anaglyph image generation
requires two input files (DEM and image), but when you try to modify the batch command automatically the
command line creates one input variable, one temporary variable, and one output variable. The process will run
fine if you change the temporary variable to an input variable.
