Sewing instructions for hand puppets

You need:
for each animal:
approx. 25 cm x 90 cm
of fleece in the
appropriate colours
(black, white, green,
purple, orange, yellow)
felt remnants in the
appropriate colours (for
the clothes, snouts and
the turtle shell)
for each animal: a bit
of cloth which fits your
index finger to go inside
the head
volume fleece (for
stuffing the head)
buttons (for the eyes)
2 polystyrene balls (for
the crocodiles eyes)
thread
needle
black felt-tip pen
scissors
glue

Peter the panda
























Cut out the template.


Put the paper templates on the fabric
and cut the cloth, leaving a 0.5 cm seam
allowance on each side.
Generally: Make sure that you always
put the outsides of two pieces
of fleece together (i.e. the fluffy
surface) when sewing.
Sew the darts of the head and snout.
Sew the ears to the seam of the head.
Sew the snout along the dotted line.
Sew all back parts together (body, arms,
head).
Sew the front and back parts together
and turn them inside out.
Fill the head with volume fleece.
Sew on the eyes and draw a mouth.
Glue on a snout made of black felt.
For the inside of the head, make a small pocket to fit over your
index finger: Cut out a piece of cloth, 7 cm x 18 cm.
Fold it in half and sew it together to make a little pocket.
Insert the pocket into the head and sew it into the inside seam.
Sew the parts of the trousers together and attach them to the body.

Tom the turtle


Cut out the template.
Put the paper templates on the fabric and cut the cloth, leaving a
0.5 cm seam allowance on each side.

pieces of fleece together (i.e. the fluffy surface) when sewing.
Sew all front parts together (body, arms, head).
Sew all back parts together (body, arms, head).
Sew the head middle part to the head.
Sew together front and back pieces and turn them inside out.
Fill the head with volume fleece.
Sew on the eyes and draw a mouth.
For the inside of the head, make a small pocket to fit over your index
finger: Cut out a piece of cloth, 7 cm x 18 cm. Fold it in half and sew it
together to make a little pocket.
Insert the pocket into the head and sew it into the inside seam.
Cut out a 20 cm x 25 cm piece of cloth for the shell. Round the edges.
Thread around the shell, stuff it and attach it to the body.

Rosie the rabbit


Cut out the template.
Put the paper cut-outs on the fabric and cut the cloth, leaving a 0.5 cm
seam allowance on each side.
Generally: Make sure that you always put the outsides of two pieces of
fleece together (i.e. the fluffy surface) when sewing.
Sew the ears, fasten them at the bottom and sew them to the head.
Sew the head middle part and the chin to the head.
Sew the front and back pieces together and turn them inside out.
Fill the head with volume fleece.
Sew on the eyes and draw a mouth.
Glue on a snout made of black felt.
Cut out white felt teeth and attach them.
For the inside of the head, make a small pocket to fit over your
index finger: Cut out a piece of cloth, 7 cm x 18 cm. Fold it in half
and sew it together to make a little pocket.
Insert the pocket into the head and sew it into the inside seam.
Sew the felt shirt and attach it to the body.
Thread around the fabric circle for the scut, stuff it and attach it to the
body.

Connie the crocodile


Cut out the template.
Put the paper cut-outs on the fabric and cut the cloth, leaving a 0.5 cm seam
allowance on each side.
Generally: Make sure that you always put the outsides of two pieces
of fleece together (i.e. the fluffy surface) when sewing.
Sew the head middle part onto the head.
Sew the front and back parts together and turn them inside out.
Fill the head with volume fleece.
Glue on the polystyrene balls and draw dots for the eyes. Draw
the mouth and the nostrils.
For the inside of the head, make a small pocket to fit over your index
finger: Cut out a piece of cloth, 7 cm x 18 cm. Fold it in half and sew it
together to make a little pocket.
Insert the pocket into the head and sew it into the inside seam.
Sew the tail parts together, stuff the tail and sew it onto the body.
Sew the felt dress and attach it to the body.
