MICROSOFT POWERPOINT 2010


Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 is one of the most popular software application used
to create computer-based presentations. It incorporates images, sounds, videos, text,
and charts to create an interactive presentation. It also offers various effects, themes,
layouts and formatting options that can be used to quickly and efficiently create and
share dynamic presentations with your audience. This software is frequently used in
business and educational settings for lectures, meetings and product presentations.
To start PowerPoint 2010:
1. Click the Start button.

2. Click All Programs, click Microsoft Office, then select Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.
For anyone new to PowerPoint, it is always a good practice to get accustomed to the
parts of the screen.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Screen Elements


Description
Contains commands organized in three components: tabs,
groups, and commands.
Displays a list of commands related to things you can do with a
presentation, such as opening, saving, or printing.
Displays buttons to perform frequently used commands with a
single click. This is a customizable toolbar, so that you may add
icons for features that you use frequently.
Displays the name of the presentation and program.
These tabs on the ribbon are headings for groups of tasks. These
tabs look similar to the headings on the menus in older versions
of PowerPoint.
Indicates the name of the groups of related commands on each
displayed tab.
The Slides/Outline pane is located on the left side of the window.
The Slides pane shows thumbnail versions of each of the slides in
the presentation. The Outline pane shows a text outline of all the
information on the slides.
The Notes section is a place for the speaker to jot down any hints
or references for his presentation. Only the presenter will see
these notes.
A horizontal bar at the bottom of the presentation window that
displays the current slide number, number of slides in a
presentation, theme name, view buttons, and zoom slider.
A set of commands that control the look of the presentation
window.
PowerPoint automatically adjusts its zoom factor so that Slide
View displays each slide in its entirety. You can change the size of
your slide by dragging the zoom control slider.
The area where you type and create your presentation.

To change the view of the slide:


1. Click the desired view on the View toolbar located at the right end of the Status bar.

2. Or, click the desired view in the Presentation Views group on the View tab.

To change the slides layout:


1. In the Slide pane, display the slide that you want to
apply a new layout to.
2. On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click the
Layout button and select the desired layout from the
gallery.

Home tab

Contains the commonly used tools for editing and formatting.

Insert tab

Contains commands related to all the items you can insert into a
presentation such as Tables, Illustrations, Links, Text, and Media Clips.

Design tab

Contains commands related to the appearance of a presentation such


as Themes and Backgrounds.

Contains commands related to the transition of slides in a presentation

View tab

Contains commands related to changing the view or the display of a


presentation

Displays the Backstage view which contains commands related to


managing files and customizing the program. The File tab replaces the
Microsoft Office button and File menu used in earlier versions of
PowerPoint.

Contains commands related to slide animation


Contains commands to set how the slide show would run.
Contains commands related to editorial tasks such as checking spelling
and adding comments

PowerPoint 2010 has four primary views to help you create, organize, and display
presentations.

Description
This is the default view when MS PowerPoint is launched. This view
includes the Slide pane, Notes pane and Slide/Outline pane.

Slide Sorter

In this view, the slides of the presentation are displayed as


thumbnails so that you can easily rearrange, copy, or delete
slides.
This view is ideal for previewing the presentation where each slide
appears in a window with simple controls. You can click buttons on
the navigation bar to move through or jump to specific slides.

Slide Show
button

This view is used to make a run through of the whole presentation.


In this view, each slide fills the entire screen.
