Introduction
I believe that teachers make a difference in the human races future. Think about how
many teachers you did not like and how you were turned off by them and how bad that made
school to attend. Then think about the teachers you actually like and how you enjoyed everything
they taught. I believe that this country has their head screwed on backwards. We need to take
care of our teachers and our students first before any other problem in America. We can fix most
problems tomorrow by fixing our future today. We can shape Americas future to be the best in
the world again. We need to start in the schools, when need to keep our children engage to want
to learn. I want to be part of this movement to ensure my future is great. I want my children to
love going to school and know that they will receive one of the best education possible, because
their teacher and their parents do care about what they learn and if they are learning.
Educational Background:
My family was stationed in Bittburg, Germany. I spent my kindergarten thru part of
second grade there. My family moved back to Idaho and I finished elementary school at
Lincoln. In the sixth grade I had to do an essay on what you wanted to be when you grow up. I
wanted to play basketball professionally. My mom came in and told me that the only way to get
there was through college and she could not afford it. So I started in the sixth grade working on
getting a scholarship to play basketball at any college that would take me. I then went to Robert
Stuart Junior High. This was when seventh grade went through to ninth grade at one school. I
went to Twin Falls High School for one year, and that was way back when Twin Falls only had
one high school. My family moved again and I went to Mayfield High School in Las Cruces,
New Mexico, I graduated in 2002. I played basketball for the high school and received a

scholarship from Western New Mexico University (WNMU). I started at WNMU in Sliver City,
NM where I was going for my athletic training degree. Three years in my program was dropped
and I was forced to move back home and attend New Mexico State University in Las Cruces,
NM. I graduated from the University with a Bachelors of Science in Individualize Studies with a
Minor in Exercise Science. I graduated from New Mexico State University in 2009. I am now
attending the College of Southern Idaho and I have not made up my mind whether to go into
Elementary Education or Secondary Education
Work History
I have always been a person to try almost anything. I have worked in the Department of
Labor in New Mexico because someone suggested it and I thought I would try it. It wasnt too
bad of job but desk work wasnt really my thing. I then got a job as a pizza delivery driver after
playing basketball. You would not believe how upset people would get about their pizza. I
understand about getting what you paid for, but if you want it 100% accurate then make it
yourself. Plus it is supper healthier to make your own pizza then it is to buy from a pizza place.
Delivering pizza took its toll on me and my poor car. I couldnt get the pizza smell out of the car
and believe me after a couple of years, I still have a hard time eating pizza. I then got my
Certified Nursing Assistance certificate which allowed me to work in hospitals and nursing
homes. I currently work in two nursing home helping people to do daily activities of life. I work
the nightshift of both places because the pay is better. Working in the nursing home I work with
the elderly that need assistance with every-day needs. I assist them with everything to sometimes
doing those things for them. I feel this type of work make you patient because you cannot rush
these people. Sometimes they have to learn everything all over again. . I help co-teach the
mountain bike class at the College of Southern Idaho. I love teaching this class and am really

bummed when winter comes because the class is on hold until spring. Mountain Biking is an upand-coming sport that people are willing to try. I work with individuals ages 18 and older, who
want to learn how to mountain bike. I have noticed that those who want to learn will stick it out
and those who dont leave and miss out on the experience. I believe it gives me a taste of what I
will be dealing with in the schools. You have some students eager to learn and some that who are
not eager. How do you get them all interested in the sport / subject? I also work at the College
Challenge Course. I get all different age groups and try to help them overcome fear and help
them leave feeling great about themselves. The Courses motto is Challenge by Choice, which
should be a life motto. You have a choice in everything you do in life.
Service and / or Extracurricular Activities
I have played sports since the time I could walk. I was in basketball and softball up until
we had moved to New Mexico where I choose to put all my time and effort into playing
basketball. I wanted to play college ball and of course go pro. I spent countless hours outside
with my basketball and hoop, just practicing on little things. The only way I was going to be able
to go to college was to get a scholarship. I was told early on that I was not going to be able to go
to college if I did not find a way to pay for it. My countless hours paid off, I received a
scholarship to play basketball at Western New Mexico University. I was there for three years,
before I made the choice to move back home and try-out for New Mexico State University team.
That was one of the most nerve wracking experiences in my life. My whole future depended on
whether or not I made the team. Or so I thought at the time. I did make the team and I received a
full ride scholarship for my last two years. I know I can share my experience with children who
cannot afford to pay for college, and show them there are other options. Im the first to graduate

from college in my family. My mother and father never went to college, so we had no idea how
the process worked or what to do. Now I know it inside and out.
Reasons for Choosing Education as a Career
I have always wanted to teach at the college level. I firmly believe though that some
professor we have should never teach until they go through the education program. It is one thing
to know your subject and spit it out to people, but its a whole another ball game to teach it. I had
extraordinary professors and I have the worst professors in the world. I did not learn a single
thing when a professor sat there and read to me. I decided and complained to other family
members who are teachers that we need professor who know how to teach. I want to be a
professor, who can actually teach and has a high success rate of people graduating, not see how
many I can fail. I started school to become an Exercise Physiologist but they are not needed in
the hospital anymore. Registered Nurses are needed more and anyone can push a button on a
treadmill. Just like anyone can grab a tool and start working on a car. There is more involved
than just pushing a button. I started with the prerequisite to go into the RN program, I found
myself hating every minute of it. So I goofed around for a year and found I enjoy teaching
people how to play sports. I was hooked on teaching when I witnessed my students experience
their aww ha moment. The reward of helping people to understand a subject / sport is really
what it is all about.
Professional Goals
I plan to become a professor in Exercise Physiology at a college or University. I want to
work and teach the next generation about exercise as well as learn from them. I aspire to help
amputees and paraplegics to live longer and healthier lives by designing an exercise program to
strengthen their hearts. My plan is to start in the elementary or secondary schools to obtain

teaching experience. I understand that I will start at the bottom and will need to work my way up
to the college level. I plan to start teaching and progress to a professor when I have the
experience and a better understanding of running a classroom.
Conclusion
It takes hard work to become a good teacher, I have no doubt in my mind that teachers
are overworked and under paid in America. Why would anyone stick with a job that does not pay
well and you are not appreciated? The satisfaction you get from teaching is priceless. Eventually
America will realize how much we really need teachers and what role they play in building our
future. History has proven to us over and over again, we are hard headed. We do not see it now
but do not give up on us yet, we will come around. When that time comes I plan to be a part of
it.
