The largest cruiseliner and most valuable ship in the history of commercial
shipbuilding is under construction at Aker Yards, Finland for Royal
Caribbean International. The 220,000 GRT vessel, dubbed Project
Genesis, represents an increase in size of 43% over the next
largest cruise ship. Utilizing three Azipod units for main
propulsion, the ship will feature outstanding maneuverability and fuel economy in spite of its extremely large
size. Upon completion in the fall of 2009, Project
Genesis will stand 65 meters above the waterline
with a length of 360 meters, a width of 47 meters
and a capacity of 5,400 passengers.
