Weekly Progress Report for T students

name
Jan. 4th 15th
Name: T.
List of projects: I have completed a cannon that holds a
candle (1), and a hollow die (2). (I am currently working
on a German shepherd key hook.)

1.

2.

What I learned: I have learned many skills including

patience with my projects, proper shop safety, and how to
use almost every tool/machine in the shop.
My favourite project and processes: I really enjoyed
welding with the oxy-acetylene torch welder on my die
and helping other people to learn tricks about the torch. I
also enjoyed working with B on the tig welder with my
cannon project.
My participation: I would say I had fairly good
participation, although sometimes I would be too
frustrated to work with my own, but I always found
someone to help in the class.
What Id like to learn in a future metal class:
Honestly, I dont know if I will be taking another metal
shop class, but I do really enjoy hands-on shop classes.
Im really appreciative of all the skills I have learned this
year.

Thanks Royle
TC Jan 5th Your logs are good! Keep up the
excellent work. Would you mind if I used your
log as an example for future students? Id be
happy to remove your name but would like to keep
the rest. Yes

This week I:
Tig welded legs together
Tig welded legs onto the wheel axel
Balanced cannon onto an angle and the candle ring
parallel to flat
Tig welded cannon onto wheel axel
Tig welded ring onto cannon end
Grinded/Sanded all ridges out and ready to paint
My plan is to paint my project, give it as a Christmas gift
to my sister. Once that is finished I am planning on
moving on to another project (yet to come).

Nov. 30th Dec. 4th

This week I:
Separated the cannon from the piece of metal
Cut piece of metal and bend it into a circle which fits
the glass holder
Cut and bend the legs of the cannon wheels
Welded the legs onto the wheel axel using the Mig
welder
Measured out and cut the balancing piece on the legs
Prepared to weld everything together this & next
week
My plan once everything is welded, is to spray paint the
entire project black, have a red candle and give it to my
sister as a Christmas gift.

Nov. 23rd 27th

The past weeks I:
Measured out materials for wheels and spokes
Welded all pieces together with the oxy-acetylene
torch
Attached wheels together by welding an axel like bar
Gathered material for the cannon attachment
Marked out the measurements for the lathe
Use the lathe to make imprints and remove
unwanted material
Created an incline with the lathe to make more
realistic cannon
With a file and sandpaper, created a smooth finish

My goal for this term is to finish the cannon candle holder

before Christmas and research new project ideas. With
determination I think I will be able to finish it before the
break and give it as a Christmas present.
