An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics


Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

The range of the age in the class is 12-15 years old. There are more girls than boys. They can't
manage their own behavior, but when their teacher got angry on them they already know what
to do. They can work independently but in some instance they need a partner or another one
to help them if the lesson is too difficult. And they just focus on the lesson if they like the
topic, and they don't like they focus on the other things.
In a class, approximately there are 30 students. The students interact with their classmates
as a friend, they annoy each other and then laugh but when the teacher notices their noisiness
the teacher scold them and suddenly they stop talking with each other

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT


Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
As I observed there are no specific areas for specific purposes, but they have
rules and procedures in a class, they have daily routines to be done and students already know
what to do first when their teacher enter in the classroom and what to do next after it, because it
happens repeatedly and continuously. So, they have more time to discuss their lesson and
maximize the instructional materials in able for the students learn well.

Your Analysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners
behaviour?
The classroom organizations and routines affect the learner's behaviour on how
they behave and discipline themselves. By the given rules and regulation, they knew what
do's and don'ts in the room. Like, Students were already knew what they are going to do
next.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in
mind?
The teacher should mind when he/she designs the classroom organization and
routines is for the effectiveness and interactive of teaching-learning process. The
condition of students and let them to be part of building rules and regulation. And the
most important roles that teacher plays as a classroom manager because the effectiveness
and efficiency of the learning process can't take place in poor manage classroom.

3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the


learners? In motivating students> Why were they effective?
Reinforce positive behaviour. In motivating students as a teacher we must have
immediately response every time they got correct answer and even wrong answers. Praise
them to uplift their soul and have self-confidence.

Your Reflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year
level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider
for this level? Why?
In highschool level. I consider the procedures like greeting students, checking
the attendance by just asking the secretary who are the absentees. Then, I start a class
with prayer, then I'll give activity to the students that is related to the topic or lesson for
today. And I will broaden their knowledge by giving simple to complex examples of
problem, then when the 95% of the students understand it I give them a quiz..

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would
you choose these rules?
I want to implement the rules in highschool level such as when I enter in the
classroom, the classroom should be clean already, I will going to smile and greet them,
and they also need to greet me. After that they they need to be quiet and place on their
proper sit, when everybody is ready to listen I start to discuss, but I have to be energetic
and joker when students feel bored. Ofcourse when I joke there is always a limit because
I just want them to respect me and I also respect them.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?


Yes, because when the learners involved in class rules, they should follow it,
because they are the one who build that rules. So, they must follow it or else feel guilt
when they unfollow it.
