The document discusses fragile environments around Hinchinbrook, Australia. It identifies mangrove swamps, rainforests, and coral reefs as the most fragile environments because they are home to many unique species and are easily damaged. Fragile Environments

1. What Is a Fragile Environment?

A Fragile Environment is a natural Biome that is rare and difficult to restore
once damaged.

2. List Three “Fragile Environments”

Three “Fragile Environments” include:
Tundra ( The Northern areas of Land where snow is common but plants
still grow), Coral Reef (Also Know as “Underwater Rainforests. Home to
millions of Aquatic species) and Mangrove(Areas inhabited by mangrove
trees. Home the many amphibious reptiles and insects).
3. Which of The Environments Around Hinchinbrook,
Australia are the most Fragile and Why?

Around Hinchinbrook there are three “Fragile Environments”.

These are The Mangrove Swamps, Te Rainforest And The Coral
Reefs.

The Mangrove Swamp is home to hundreds of amphibious

reptiles and insects. Mangroves Prefer To Grow in slightly alkali
water and it’s inhabitants have adapted to suit these
conditions. Mangroves hold back a lot of sand and earth that,
as more mangroves are destroyed, is flowing into the ocean.

The Coral Reefs are a rare Formation found only in shallow

areas of the tropics. They are easily destroyed, however, by
tourist’s anchors and inquisitive scuba divers. The Hinchinbrook
reef was home to millions of aquatic species and is thus a very
fragile environment.
The Rainforests of Hinchinbrook were also a very fragile
environment consisting of many rare trees and animals.
As Hinchinbrook had one of the only double world heritage
sites, with rainforest and Coral reef situated just next to one
another this are was a very fragile environment!

4. Do you think that the development of Hinchinbrook was

a fair / a good idea?  Explain Why.

I feel that, however good for the Human population the

development of Hinchinbrook was it was a Disaster for the
Natural population.

During the development, many trees were destroyed in the

rainforest. This would have meant the destruction of many nests
and burrows and sent animals running for their lives.

It would have scared the once beautiful landscape and left the
reef in ruins. All the noise, light and gas pollution would have a
profound effect on the area and, although many would be
unhappy the development could have been made further inland
but so that the small town of Hinchinbrook was only a short drive
away.
Because of these reasons I feel that the development of
Hinchinbrook was a bad idea.
