PRESS ADVISORY

DATE: MAY 6, 2010 CONTACT: THOMAS P. CHARLES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 614.644.9110

FOLLOW-UP INFORMATION REGARDING THE APRIL 29, 2010, REPORT

ON THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, THE OHIO
DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES AND THE OHIO
DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION AND CORRECTION (FILE ID 2010037)

Last Thursday, this office issued a report on the lack of proper supervision of the
Governor’s Residence honor inmate program and related issues. The primary focus of our
report was a review of the inmate work program. That review identified numerous
deficiencies that jeopardize the safety of the First Family, residents of the neighborhood
and the staff and officers who work at the Residence. Various members of the
Administration have acknowledged that these deficiencies exist and we are confident that
they are addressing them.

Secondarily, we investigated the circumstances under which a routine and well-planned

law enforcement operation outside the perimeter fence of the Residence was cancelled. In
the course of that investigation, some witnesses made false and misleading statements.
Due to the length and complexity of our report, we are providing an attached synopsis of
the evidence on which we relied to come to our conclusion regarding the Director of
Public Safety. The synopsis is available on our website by following this link:
