Hotel Rwanda

The document summarizes the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda and compares it to the memoir Left to Tell. It discusses how in 1994 during the Rwandan genocide, hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu married to a Tutsi, sheltered over 1,200 Tutsis and moderate Hutus at his hotel from Hutu extremists, saving their lives. Both the film and memoir portray heroic figures, Rusesabagina and a pastor respectively, who protected Tutsis by hiding them during the genocide despite limited resources.

All About Hotel Rwanda

April 7, 1994 was not a great year for Rwanda. Anger arose from many
Hutu people. Hutu extremists killed over one million Tutsis during the
genocide. Paul Rusesabagina, a manager of a Hotel was Hutu and had a wife
who was Tutsi. He felt sorrow towards the Tutsis who were being killed. Paul
Rusesabagina opened his hotel for surviving Tutsis and Hutus who needed
protection. Without Paul Rusesabagina, an extra 1,200 Tutsis and Hutus
wouldnt have been dead.

Hotel Rwanda was a great movie. The movie made me feel like I was
in Rwanda surviving the genocide. Paul Rusesabagina was a great person who
saved many lives. The one bad thing about Hotel Rwanda was that there is a
ton of violence. Many people being shown were killed by the Interhamwe.
Dead bodies piled up the streets everywhere.
There were many similarities with Hotel Rwanda and Left to Tell. The
book Left to Tell was about a Tutsi woman named Imaculee Ilibagiza living in
Rwanda. Her family was having a hard time keeping Tutsis safe, so her father
sent her to the pastors house. The pastor agreed to keep her safe in a
bathroom with seven other women. The women were hiding for 91 days until
they could be liberated by the French.
Both Hotel Rwanda and Left to Tell were about a nice gentlemen
helping Tutsis hide from the Hutu extremists. Paul Rusesabagina and the
pastor saved Tutsis lives and allowed them to live without being killed. They
were also running low on supplies to feed the hidden Tutsis, but the food
lasted and kept them alive. Neither the pastor or Paul Rusesabagina were
found with hiding Tutsis. Many of the Tutsis were safe from being killed by
Hutu extremists.
