    It is a Mexican holiday where they celebrate and eat a lot of food
    and listen to music and dance.
    2. What does it celebrate?
    It celebrates the day they won independence from the French.
    3. Who celebrates Cinco de mayo?
    The Mexicans celebrate it.
    4. How is Cinco de mayo celebrated?
    With music, food, and fiestas.
    5. List everything else you know about this holiday (prior to doing your
    research).
    They eat tacos and make really good salsa.

    Research

    a) History Hunters
    1.
    - Benito Juarez was a Mexican lawyer and politician
    who served as the president of Mexico.
    - Porfirio Diaz was a Mexican soldier and politician who
    served as president of Mexico.
    - Ignacio Zaragoza was a soldier and fought for Mexico.
    Napoleon III was the only President of the French Second
    Republic and the Emperor of the Second French Empire.
    - Maximilian was the only monarch of the Second Mexican
    Empire.
    2.
    They all had some sort of political leadership.
    3.
    Many people think it is like our Fourth of July but its not.
    4.
    The French came to collect money from Mexico but they
    didnt have it.
    5.
    It was a battle between the French and the Mexicans and
    ended in a victory for Mexico.

    It was one day and ended in 1862.
    7.
    Mexico won after a long fight with the French.
    b) Festive Foods
    1.
    - Mole is a popular sauce used on cuisine and in
    dishes in Mexico.
    - Chipotle is a smoke-dried jalapeno.
    - Enchiladas are tortillas filled with a certain type of meat
    with sauce.

    The three main foods are flautuas, tamales, and
    enchiladas.

    A traditional tortilla is made with wheat flour and is soft
    and thin.

    - A group of musicians dressed in popular clothing. It is cultural,
    spiritual, and traditional.
    - They use violins, trumpets, and guitars.
    - Mariachi Campanas de America which is under the charge of
    Juan Oriz. The female Mariachi band Reyna de Los Angeles were
    featured on Companeras.
    - Tejano music is a modern sound with influences from cumbia
    and rock and blues.
    d) Fascinating Facts

    Their independence, their army, and their culture
    and heritage
    - They came back to get their money that Mexico owed
    them
    - It doesnt apply to all of the cities
    - They had 2,000 soldiers in battle and the French had
    6,000.
    - It was not expected for Mexico to win.
    - There are many Mexican-Americans in America
    e) Typical Traditions
    1.
    You can expect to see a lot of people, music,
    dancing, and food.
    People have dances and listen to music.
    Many women wear dresses and the men wear
    embroidered clothes.
    It was them gaining independence and not us.
    Mini sombreros: The mariachis wear them so it is good to
    have them even if they arent the actual size. Mexican
    guitars: it gives authentic sounds which the Mariachis use.
