Our machines are made to give you many years of reliable service, We back it up with the longest guarantee available: One year on all parts, including the blades and heating element. Two years on the electronics. ‘The HC-530 is a hot and cold electronic piece-cutting machine with adjustable speed. It is, completely automatic and user friendly. It is designed to operate without the constant attention of an operator. It cuts and counts up to 99,999 pieces and automatically stops on any count you set. Two roll sensors automatically stop the machine when the roll ends and keeps the amount cut in memory. It is able to cut in inches (1/32 increments) or millimeters (1mm inerements). It also has a multi-stroke feature. If the material is very thick, the HC-530 can be programmed for the knife to come down multiple times (0-9) without advancing the material. The hot knife has a temperature control that goes up to 600 degrees and is self-adjusting. The heating element has a temperature sensor that regulates and balances the heat to within 25 degrees of set value. The machine comes with its own toolbox that holds a set of cold blades, tools and this manual. A roll stand is included. If you need assistance in setting up the machine please call at 619-280-0278 Monday to Friday 9am to Spm PST PEC POWER SUPPLY 120 volts / no air required FREDING SPEED adj. up to 13 inches per second CUTTING LENGTH 400 feet CUTTING WIDTH 4 inches TOLERANCE 05% of total cut QUATITY max 99.999 pieces COUNTER max 99,999 pieces SAFETY knife cover sensor. auto stop roll end sensor SCALE inches and mi AUTO feed / reverse SHEFFIELD 2 SETTING UP AND MAINTENANCE After unpacking the machine, please check for any damages that might have occurred during shipment. Please call us if you find any damage. Set the machine on a sturdy table. Make sure the protective cover is in place and the roll stop sensor is not touching the guide bar. Then connect the machine to a 120-volt AC ONLY outlet. Do not connect to feed rail. Turn the machine ON by pressing the POWER switch on the right side. The cooling fan will come on and the control panel will light up the function display screen. Insert one or more rolls of material on the roll stand and load material as shown on page 4. Press the left arrow feed button and feed approximately 4” of material past the roller. Apply a small amount of pressure to the spring on the roll sensor and tighten the screw. Return to the control panel, set the speed (start at 50) and length. Make sure you know what measuring scale you are in (inside of the back door of the control box above the driver you will find the control that regulates the setting, factory setting is in inches), program how many pieces you need to cut, set COUNTER to zero and press START button. If at any time you need to stop the machine simply press the STOP button, Both cold and hot programming is the same. If you are using the hot knife, turn ON the hot knife control unit and set the temperature to 600 degrees. It takes approximately 20 minutes for the machine to heat up to temperature. If you are not using the hot knife for longer than 20 minutes, lower the temperature or shut off the knife control unit, this will prolong the life of the heating element. AMP METER should read between 4 and 6 amps. The fuses are rated at 8 amps. SHEFFIELD 3 LOADING MACHINE & ERROR CODES Please see the picture below on how to properly load material. Make sure the end roll sensor spring lies on top of the material. Apply slight pressure on the spring. When the material ends. this spring will automatically stop the machine and the control panel will start flashing error code 15. After you reload the machine with a new roll the error message will stop. Make sure the material is between the spring and the guide bar. Press the start button to start cutting. The machine will pick up the count from where it left off before the material ended. ERROR CODE CAUSE CODE 1 Knife head is out of position or motor CODE a Proximity switch CODE 9 Driver CODE 15 End roll sensors or safety cover switch If your machine is flashing any of the above error codes, please call us. Normally. error 15 can be fixed by adjusting the safety cover miero switch. It can also be caused by the spring on the end roll sensor touching the guide bar. SHEFFIELD 4 SAFETY All of our machines have a safety cover (ref, No.1) that fits over the knife assembly. If this cover is not in place, the machine will not operate. The machine will also stop in the middle of a cut if removed and an error message will flash on the control panel. Error 15. The machine comes standard with two roll sensors that are located on the first post. This sensor sits on top of the material being cut (the material acts as an insulator preventing the sensor from touching the metal roll below the fabric), Once the roll ends, the sensor will automatically stop the machine and keep in memory the count of how many pieces it has cut to that point. Install a full roll of material, press start and it will continue to cut. The small windows below the quantity indicator numbered 1 to 19 and the ones below the machine serial number tell you which phase the machine eycle is in. SHEFFIELD 5 WHERE TO OIL 4 to 5 Drops of medium weight oil in each location, every other day. (ee SHEFFIELD 6 CONTROL PANEL The control panel on the HC-530 is simple to operate. We will review the functions of each window and switch. SPEED: This setting permits you to change the feedin 10 to 99 (decrease the speed when cutting elastic). CUT: This setting is for when you are cutting heavy webbing and the hot knife does not completely cut the material on the first cyele. Changing the value can make the knife come down up to nine times without feeding the material, ED: (Left and right arrows below CUT WINDOW) This window is for feeding or speed of the machine. The range is ing the material from the rollers, LENGTI controls the length of the piece to be cut, With our machines you can cut in inches or millimeters. QUANTITY SET: How many pieces do you want to cut? With this setting you can program the machine to cut up t0 99,999 pieces. QUANTITY INDICATOR: This window will let you know how many pieces the machine has cut. To reset, press ZERO. START BUTTON: (Green) This button will start the cutting process. STOP BUTTON: (Red) This button stops the cutting process. The lights below the serial number and quantity indicator is a diagnostic feature to troubleshoot any problems. No.9) is already assembled with ref, No.8. 10 and 11. all you need to do is install screws (ref. No.12, 13) imo the base and then tighten them into the frame. Then install cover plate (ref. No.15) with screws (ref. No.14) Nest, hold together (ref. No.1 insulating plate, No.2 hot knife and No.3 heating element and put washers (ref. No.5 and 6) on to the 3 bolts (ref. No.7) Once in place hold the heating element in position and tighten the three screws (ref. No.7) ‘Next, turn ON the switch (ref. No.3) and set temperature conirol knob (ref. No 1A) to desired temperature (we suggest setting of 600 degrees). The higher the temperature the less smoke is created when cutting heavy materials. Notice the red light on the top left comer af the temperature. When the heating element isin the process of warming up. this light will remain on. When the set temperature is reached the red light will tur off and the green light will tum on. The temperature is self-adjusting plus or minus 25 degrees. From a cold start it takes approximately 20 minutes to reach maximum temperature. The amp meter should read between 4 and 6 amps. SHEFFIELD 8 COLD KNIFE Make sure the machine is disconnected before continuing with the following steps. Afier removing the hot unit, install the bottom blade (ref. No.5) into the cut out slot in the machine frame and match the holes in the blade with the three threaded holes in the frame of the machine. Use the counter sunk Phillips head screws. Then install the slide plate (ref. No.2) onto the frame of the machine with screws (ref, No.1). To install the top knife, take the blade and slide in thru the knife guide assembly (ref. A) then slide top knife up in the back of the assembly matching the threaded screw holes on the knife with the serew holes in assembly knife frame (ref. A) The last step before starting the cutting process is aligning the top blade with the bottom blade. To do this insert an 8mm wrench (supplied in the toolbox) into the hole on the side of the machine and manually turn one complete cycle Connect the machine and you are ready to cut. SHEFFIELD 9 ROLLER The upper roller should last 4 to 5 years depending on what you are cutting. When the roller needs to be cleaned. use alcohol. Special maintenance is not needed to prolong the life of the roller, but we do recommend when cutting Velero to make sure the hook or loop is facing down towards the metal roller. When replacing the top roller make sure the machine is off, remove both thumb screws (ref. No.1). remove the springs (ref. No.3) and remove the screws (ref. No.4 and 7), Once you remove these screws, lift the roller support (ref. A) above the bolt (ref. No.2) and then slide the roller support towards you. This disengages the support from the roller shaft bearing, removing the driver gear. (No. 5). Place the gear on the new roller and install the new roller SHEFFIELD 10 ADJUSTMENTS We are going to review some basic adjustments you will need to know to get an optimum performance from your Sheffield cutting machine. When cutting heavy rolls itis important to have the machine at the proper speed to make sure the machine is not tugging the material off the roll. If itis. the tolerance will vary. To overcome this possible prablem, set the speed at 3 or 4 then work your way up to a higher speed. [t is also important to have the proper pressure on the top roller. The thicker the material. the less pressure you need to apply to the thumb screws (ref. No.2) to make sure there is no slippage. If the tolerance still varies. you may need a prefeeder. Some types of elastic will require a prefeeder. We carry iwo types of pretéeders: model PF-33 (for heavy rolls) and PF-4 (light rolis.) if the roil of material has a tendency to unwind on its own when you place it in the roll stand, adjust the pressure on the thumb screw (ret, A) One of the unique features of our machines is the availability to cut in millimeters or inches. To change this setting. open the back cover of the control box and you will see a black dial on the upper right hand side above the driver. (part, No. 015) and set it to your choice. There are 4 settings. 2 in mm and 2 in inches.
