CENTRE FOR EXTERNAL STUDIES - FASHION AND FABRICS

BASIC SKILLS IN CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION

Course Equivalent: Basic skills in Needlework


Prerequisite: BETD + 2 years Teaching Experience in Subject
Duration: 3 months
Contact sessions: 2 weeks possibly 1 week-end
Assessment: End of Module Examination as well as Practical
Examination

Course Description:
To introduce students to the basic skills needed in clothing construction and safety aspects.

SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF CLOTHING

Prerequisite: BETD + 2 years Teaching Experience in Subject


Duration: 3 months
Contact sessions: 2 weeks
Assessment: Project Folder + Theory Examination/Exhibition

Course Description:
To introduce students to reason why people wear clothes (socio-psychological aspects of
clothing)

TEXTILES

Prerequisite: BETD + 2 years Teaching Experience in Subject


Duration: 3 months

Contact sessions: 2 weeks
Assessment: Practical, Home Based Assignment + Theory Examination

Course Description:
Students use the ability to apply textile knowledge and skills

CLOTHING AND GARMENT CONSTRUCTION INCLUDING CRAFT WORK

Prerequisite: Basic skills in Clothing Construction


Duration: 6 months
Contact sessions: 2 Contacts sessions of 2 weeks
Assessment: Practical (Including garments and Port Folio) + Written
Examination

Course Description
Garment Construction, Pattern Development as well as Alteration. Craft work can be included in
the garments or it can be additional.

CONSUMERISM AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Prerequisite: Should have completed the previous modules


Duration: 3 months
Contact sessions: 2 weeks
Assessment: Continuous assessment (Small business Plan)+
Examination

Course Description:
To introduce students to consumer behaviour, small scale home-based business, to establish and
sustain a business venture (Basic bookkeeping principles)
