Fluvastatin - Drug Study

Fluvastatin is a statin used orally to reduce LDL and total cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, coronary atherosclerosis, and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used to slow the progression of coronary atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of coronary revascularization procedures. The recommended adult dose is 20-40 mg orally once daily at bedtime, increasing up to a maximum of 80 mg daily. Fluvastatin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity or active liver disease. Nursing responsibilities include monitoring liver function tests, watching for signs of myositis, and ensuring patient follows a low-cholesterol diet.
